GrimmSpeed Battery Tie Down 2015 FRS Fitment Issue
First and foremost, I'd like to thank Casey for being rather responsive and not just assuming I'm an idiot for not being able to put on their battery tie down.
What should be a 2second install turned into quite a curious frustration. I sold my 05 STI and got a 15 FRS and I tried to install my battery tie down, but it didn't fit. I tried switching orientations, tightening different sides first and to different levels, but nothing worked. This evening I went to a friends house who owns a 13 BRZ with a GrimmSpeed battery tie down to compare the size of our j-hooks Just to confirm our confirmation, he decided to try and do the install himself to see if I am just truly mechanically inept. Anyone else experience the same issue? Can anyone else confirm fitment on their 15 FRS or BRZ? |

you should be able to buy the older style battery hook for like 5 or 10 bucks from the dealership. it can't be THAT expensive, but then again they call them stealerships for a reason... lol.
I don't see a reason why the older style j hook wouldn't fit

The back hook is short and stubby and shorter than the front hook.
Yea; I'm just going to go to the dealer.Plus, I get SCCA discount so hopefully the cost will be negligible. |

Thanks for making this thread!
Does it fit when you flip the battery tie down around so the GrimmSpeed logo is facing out? It seems like the amount of difference in thread is about the same as the difference in the machined height from one side to the other. And I know you're probably not around your buddy with the 13 BRZ anymore, but was the rear j hook the same length? Chase Engineering |

My pleasure. I did flip the tie down, but it did not help. Well, IIRC it helped a little but not enough threads to really grab onto for me to feel safe. Though, I could be remembering incorrectly now as I spent a frustrating 45min after confirming this trying to put on the Perrin Reverse Lockout with shitty instructions so my brain was kind of not thinking clearly.
I am not, and I did not check that. Perhaps I'll have to meet up for burger and a beer with him tonight to compare those just cause. |

I went to Subaru to get a '13 BRZ Rear Battery Bolt (82161AG011), but it is exactly the same as what is on my car currently. Luckily they are only $1.65. When I go back for the other parts I ordered I'll have to see if any of the other models have longer J hooks and try that. Thanks for the idea though.

I still have mine; probably someone hidden in my parent's garage at this point.
I have yet to find a solution... other than finding a buddy with a BRZ/FRS that you can swap hooks with. @GrimmSpeed gotta any extra battery hooks hanging around? |

The J Hook is pretty generic, you can buy them at almost any autoparts store, in different lengths. Maybe you can just buy a new one the right length?
A quick search of Amazon showed them in 6", 8" and 10" lengths for under 5 bucks.

Your mileage may vary but as suggested by brzbrad I was able to use a small S-Hook from (http://www.homedepot.com/p/Crown-Bol...4714/203001547) Home Depot that lengthened the J-Hook enough to work.....time will tell if this is a viable long-term solution.

However, we still haven't had another person contact us to complain that the J-hooks were too short, and it's been almost 2 years. It makes me wonder if maybe your car had a mis-manufactured j-hook installed from the factory. Either way, I'm glad you've got it sorted and the solution of an s-hook is pretty clever too.
