Can't get rid of TPMS light after putting OEM wheels back on

After doing much research and trying everything being suggested, I still can't get rid of my TPMS light.

1. I took off my original OEM wheels to run an aftermarket set w/ R compounds for about a month. Got the usual lights on, lights off. No big deal. Figured things would go away after going back to OEM.

2. I put my OEM wheels back on with the original sensors, and light has been permanently on for the past year.

3. I tried clearing all DTC's. Light stays on.

4. I tried "Waking Up" the sensors by dropping them at least 6psi within 30 seconds. Afterwards I filled them up to 32psi. I cleared all DTC's using Techstream. Light is off, but comes back on after 30 miles.

5. Techstream shows all 4 sensor ID's properly, and even their tire pressures accurately.

6. Last DTC I was able to pull was C2176, which according to https://techinfo.toyota.com/t3Portal...=1477066027695 is a "Malfunction in the tire pressure warning ECU internal circuit."

I'm a bit puzzled about this DTC, since I have never touched the TPMS receiver or ECU. Maybe I'm not refilling the tires enough at 32psi? Any suggestions would help. Thanks.

May be stating the obvious and you have already done it but have you unhooked the battery for a couple of minutes?

The old IT "Turn it off and back on" seems to work on many such issues here.

Have done that several times in the past. I think clearing DTC's does more than unhooking the battery.

Was worth a shot. Clearing wasn't working.

I guess I was just under what the system thinks is acceptable. Hmmm kinda annoying I can't run a tire pressure that I like without the light coming on.

are you checking the tire pressure when cold? try upping the cold tire pressure to 34 and see if it still comes on. if you're checking it when it's hot, then that might be why

Maybe someone with more TPMS knowledge can answer this, but maybe the TPMS sensor IDs are specific to which corner you're putting them? Maybe you didn't put the wheels back in the same location before you took them off.

I have no problem rotating my tires. I don't think it matters.

Have you tried going back to 35 psi to see if the light stays out?

I vaguely remember seeing in techstream a field for the alarm threshold. Might be wishful thinking but I could swear I saw it.

When learning new TPMS sensor IDs, they must be entered starting with the left front wheel and proceeding clockwise around the car... so there is some form of position dependency. I have no idea if the OP has done some action that cleared the old codes...

In any event, a good tire store will reprogram this for you for free, even if you have not purchased tires from them. Discount Tire did it for me - no affiliation other than being a satisfied customer in the past. The actually swapped my wheels I did not buy from them and reprogrammed the new TPMS sensors for free - though in appreciation I tipped the tech $20.

See, I thought I had read something like that. I wonder if the receivers aren't just sensitive enough to pick up the response signal no matter where the wheel unit is mounted.

I don't think it matters where the wheels are mounted on the car. I have rotated the wheels numerous times without changing positions with my ATEQ. Even after mounting wheels without sensors, you can start the car 10 feet away from a set of unmounted sensor-equipped wheels and the TPMS light will go off.

Like Ultra recommended try going up to 35 and see what happens...

As a side question...

Do you know how long it lasts the battery in the TPMS sensors? My OEM rims have not been used for 2 years and after the winter I'll need to mount them back in the car for the 3 year inspection.

On most cars those batteries are good for at least 6 years.
