Road/Exhaust noise mitigation?

I thought the stock exhaust was too quiet so I upgraded it and now it is just a tad bit too loud to enjoy my music when I'm just cruising. Same goes for the road noises. I know you can dampen the doors of your car to reduce vibrations but is there a location to apply dynomats or other sound mitigating rubber that would reduce road noise and possibly the exhaust sound? Perhaps under the carpeting of the car?

I haven't done it myself, but I've seen a few other people on this forum who've done it and they've said it works great.

This guy did dynamat and said it was great. He didn't post any pictures, but you might be able to ask him: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11411

I put GTMat in the trunk area of my car and it helped with low RPM situations, I am a lot closer to stock exhaust sound (I have the Works resonated AB), once you stick the happy pedal though you can definitely hear the exhaust the same with or without the GTMat

Well, you could cover the whole car in sound deadner, that'd help.

Some people only do the trunk and doors, but that only helps a bit. But its something.

I don't know how it would cost to get it done by a professional, maybe around 2k?

So a majority of the sound comes from the rear? I might try matting down the trunk, under the rear seats, and the doors since I will be doing sound upgrade in the future; hopefully itll be enough. I prefer to DIY to save cost since the OEM Audio+ install video shows how to remove everything anyways. Does anyone know how many sq feet approximate would be enough to do both doors and the trunk?

Don't forget about the side panels in the rear seat area. I haven't done mine yet, but there is nothing between those plastic panels and the outside sheet metal and rear wheel wells, so a lot of noise comes through there as well.

Hmm there seems to be a lot of different types of deadening for different things. I think for road noise/exhaust note I'm going to go with Second Skin Luxury Liner Pro to matt down the trunk roof and floor and under the rear seats. For the doors I'll probably use Damplifier pro. Hopefully I wont add more than 20 lbs total..

I used Dynomat on my truck (can put pictures in my album if you want me to). It's not cheap and does add weight but it's well worth it. I noticed a considerable difference inside the cab. I was running 40" tall tires. You will need to do the floor, roof, doors, firewall and trunk. You may even want to consider using it on the top portion of the trunk. If that doesn't work......install larger speakers and turn it up. Best of luck.
