I only ride a couple thousand miles a year. You should be able to get 3-5k out of most street/sport tires...unless you're doing a bunch of burnouts or track days.

This is a stationary shot btw, the bike records your Vmax.

And to the guy that said he did 180+ on an R6 is short bus stupid. 160-170mph is all you'll get out of a 600, there just isn't enough torque to keep moving the air.
180+ isn't a far cry for an R6. Mine was able to do 176 and was fairly stock.

On another note I had mine up on only the front wheel at 140+ after a collision with another bike (at a track). Guy lost it down the straight and his bike slid across the track into my rear wheel causing a pretty big hop. I had to check my leathers afterwards..

176 indicated by the speedo or gps verified? As others have said, bikes are always optimistic by about 10%. I've checked mine via handlebar mounted cell phone, its almost exactly 10% off. So if the bike says 100 then I'm really doing 90, if it says 150 then I'm really doing 135 etc etc. 176 would put you at 159 which is about what any 600 should do. This is why magazines have to use gps and other testing equipment to verify.

180 is actually a lot more difficult then you'd think, the faster you go the more mother nature trys to hold you back. Its why you can go about 150mph in a 250 hp car but you need 1000 hp to go 250. Obvious generalization of course but the foundation is solid.

That was by speedo. 10% off seems pretty high though doesn't it? I have no idea though since I've never actually double checked versus gps.

I've tested 3 bikes, my 675, my brothers 07 R1 and my dads honda ST1300 and they were all about 10% high. My bike and the R1 were tested to 100mph+ the ST was only tested to about 85 but they all had the same difference.

Nope most speedo's are 5-10% optimistic. You can tell this by when you go on the highway and the radar sign says your going 67 when your speedo reads ~75. This isn't even factoring things like tire circumference which can be effected something as simple as tire pressure

If you want the most accurate reading, either GPS...... or the man with the radar gun

120 on a bike really isn't a big deal since they can get there and slow down so quick, 130+ gets a little iffy on a 600.

I've had mine since new in 07 and have done just about everything you can to it. Full remus exhaust, grips, levers, filter, tune, powder coating, lots of carbon/titanium etc. I might trade it in for a new 675R one of these days.
Thats reassuring, Seeing in a world full of GSXR's, Ninja's, CBR's and Dukes, you have to take all aspects of the bike into consideration before you get one, just another + for the 675 then

My Outback probably has the most accurate speedo of any vehicle I've personally measured. When it reads 75, my actual speed is about 73, by GPS. It still reads high, but it's pretty darn close to dead on. Every other vehicle I've measured reads about 5-8mph high at interstate speeds (70-80mph)
