Traded in.

Well its been a week.

Every time a twin goes by I regret it. Hopefully its the right decision and with a little luck, I will own another 86.

I have been looking at Porsches for a little while now, trying to find the same drive experience that I get from an 86 but with more torque & a little interior refinement. As I've weighed that direction vs. continuing to inject more and more money in mods into the BRZ I came to the conclusion that for me, it didn't add up. Turning the BRZ into a 40k project or buying a 40k 2nd hand Cayman kept butting heads.

So I've taken the step of trading in my 2014 Limited BRZ for a 2004 Dodge Durango. (not a Porsche). As a stepping stone to the Porsche. Or a mid life reboot of the 86 platform in 2017/2018.

The 86 community and in particular everyone from the Lacey Olympia Tacoma Area have become a significant part of my social circle. I plan to continue to lurk and watch and hopefully in a few months I'll be the ugly duckling along with Ariel in a non 86 trailing around with you guys.

I've already parted out most everything. I'll be listing whats left here/on the local Facebook. I'd like to see local drivers have first crack.

Keep driving the best little RWD platform ever and dueces to you all.

I've considered similar path, but every time I think about working on a Porsche myself vs the BRZ I shudder at the much higher cost and more difficult to do my own labor. More comfortable seats and less noise on the freeway would be nice however. Why can't there be a perfect car in my price range! There's no perfect anything, that's why.
Good luck.

I hope you get back to a twin fairly soon...and that you don't regret getting that generation of Durango which is possibly is one of the most unreliable cars I have ever encountered.

Can I ask what drove you to take such an impressive downgrade?

QFT.

Thanks for sharing your experience, and for being part of the community - I wish you the best of luck with moving on from the BRZ, and maybe a future iteration of the platform will re-ignite your interests, and rekindle the passion that the initial platform brought you.

Take care, and don't be a stranger around the forum.

The Durango specifically, I needed something that filled the dual role of dog hauler, and large covered item hauler, and I had previous experience the 5.7 Hemi and liked it. also this is driving my entire decision.

http://www.porsche.com/usa/models/cayman/cayman-gt4/ I figure in 24 months I can get one for $70-75k. hopefully. Maybe less if I'm crazy lucky. The durango lets me start saving for that sucker immediately. Vs making a payment on something a little less of a downgrade.

Congratulations!

Congratulations on NOT buying a Porsche! I traded my '99 Carrera Cabrio for the FR-S and it was the best financial decision that led to a growing number hours of fun driving and autoX competition.

Was trading it for a Dodge the right move? Of course it was if that's what you need and want right now.

All around congratulations!

Wanted a Porsche so he got a Dodge? It's OK. I wanted a pickup so I got an electric Fiat. I seriously doubt the GT4 will do anything anytime soon but go up in value.

No doubt. Just hoping to snag a 2015 in 2 years with around 20k on it In the sub 75k range. Of course that could be a pipe dream. But we all need goals. And maybe one of other awesome new platforms will be in production or a turbo 86.

Calls the twins "best little RWD platform ever", trades it in, wants a porsche.
Talks about selling car because 40k project vs used 40k cayman. Wants 75k gt4 cayman.

Good luck in whatever you decide to do!
