Good thing is you can probably MAKE money putting the wheels, suspension, and exhaust back to stock.

I find this setup more fun to drive around town than it was stock. It has all the fun characteristics, just more pointy and precise feeling. Still slide it around all of the roundabouts I want. If ride quality or extra ground clearance is important I'd probably just go B6 on stock springs as already mentioned. 20mm drop hasn't been much of a issue for me. One particularly tall set of speed bumps made me hit my mudflaps. Last edited by RToyo86; 10-26-2021 at 02:54 PM. |

I am guilty of making the same mistakes when I was younger.... I am willing to bet quite a few of us have been down the path you took.
As you learned, mods without a well thought out plan and goal rarely turn out as expected. At least you learned your lesson on a fairly inexpensive car! Before you return to stock (if you decide to do so), have you considered trying an autocross or HPDE venue? From the sounds of it although your mods have hurt you as a daily driver, you might just catch the track bug. Good luck

Live long enough and we all do that. My mistake was making a '91 Firebird Formula handle like an RX7 FD. I did it, but the car was never designed for that, so you could hear the rattles from the space station, and the only place you could drive was to the chiropractor.
I agree with some of the others here; there is nothing boring enough to keep stock. I bought a Prius as a college commuter, it ended up with lowering springs, sway bars, and chassis stiffening because I'm an idiot. Don't buy something you hate because you will spend a lot trying to fix it. Lost money is the penalty you paid for ignorance. At least it wasn't even more cash, a divorce, or your health. |

I get where you're coming from, but think about the knowledge you now have versus if you hadn't done anything to the car.
I grew up going to car shows and helping my dad customize his cars. Going back through all of the cars I've owned I think the only one I didn't modify was an '81 Chevy Malibu with a 229 V6 and Saginaw 3 speed. Everything else I've owned has been modified to some extent or the other. Old VWs & GM G Bodies ('73, '78, & '85), an S-10, GMC 1500, Jeep Wrangler, Dodge Rams ('94 and '08), Hummer H2, Subaru Forester, Fiat 500, Toyota Tacoma, and an FRS, all modified how I wanted. Motorcycles too. I enjoy the planning, turning the wrenches, and using the additional capabilities. I’ll admit right now that I went too far with my 2007 335i. It was too powerful to use on the street, so I always had to drive carefully and could never wring it out on the street without fearing blue lights. For a daily it was too much.
That’s why my current 335i is mostly stock, just square wheels, exhaust, and cosmetics. It’s honestly more fun, and you won’t know until you’ve been on both sides of the fence. |

No such thing as too much power. Just too little traction.

Just buy TRD parts before they're discontinued and hold them for a few years. @ TRD steering wheels, duracon shift knobs, and carbon fender fins (to name a few).
