I don't think there's any DSG on earth that can manage 8ms shifts. It's more like 200ms.

Huh, you are right. I don't know where I got 8ms from. 200ms is still stupid fast to complete a shift.

It's been a running thing on the internet... it had me curious as well. But yes, 200ms is damn stupid fast.

The new ZF conventional autos do sub 200ms too, that’s why BMW went away from DCTs. Seems like it’s only VAG (and Porsche by extension) that’s hanging onto them.

You talk about transmission preference outside the forum? That's dedication.

BMW went to the ZF8 because its cheaper and can be used across multiple platforms. its cost cutting.

Supercars are all still using DCT. Mclaren, Ferrari, lambo, porsche, C8 vette/z06.

First, I said it’s no dig on MT. Second, of course I pulled that 50% number out of my ass, but it’s based on going on Porsche forums where many a dedicated MT guy went with the PDK because it’s that good. Maybe it’s age, different priorities in life, etc. Sure many stayed with MT, hence my 50/50 number.

That’s a magazine number where they rag on the car to get the best number. Doubt you are doing that light to light as the minivan pulls away from you. Around here these soccer moms are literally flooring it sometimes.

Let's not forget that you actually said 'half' which, in context, is more like 'a bunch.' At least that's how I read it after I decided where the missing comma belonged.

It was an automatic but I had no choice as it was a left over sitting on the lot for 2 years. So I really didn’t know any better. I have a premium MT that should be here before the end of the month. I may or may not track it. I work from home so really don’t need to worry about traffic too much. I learned on a stick shift so I’m not concerned about that. I like to go fast and kick the backend of the car out every chance I get. Lol.

The last couple days have been second guessing my choice for a MT. I feel like it’s a side effect of waiting for the dang thing to come in. If it wasn’t a waiting game I probably wouldn’t be second guessing myself as I would have the car by now and having a good time with it.
Biggest regret I always have is buying an automatic on anything. I always sit in there wishing I had a stick shifter while counting the years for my lease or finance to end

I hear ya. The thing is I didn’t know what I didn’t know. My last dealings with a manual was in the mid 90’s with a small Chevy Blazer. My driveway had an incline. I came home from work on day, parked it, went inside. I hear a knock at the door and the truck seemed to roll into my neighbors driveway. Lol. I get a little absent minded once in a while.

Porsche states somewhere that in the history of Porsche 911, 90 percent of their cars have sold in auto, pdk or otherwise.

This is until very recently, where manuals have made a significant part of the sales in last 2 years - one can only assume its a status thing about owning the last of the manuals.
