Nope, i didn’t want to mention anything if i didn’t need to. I was concerned the OEM tune i loaded wouldve pointed me out in their computers but it passed. Car read 2013 and all was good.

Feb 2014 purchased, just got SMOG'd yesterday.
Took off intake because it's bright red, took off mishimoto cloned catch can.

Kept my Tomei 60S exhaust because it's just catback, and subaru oil cooler.

Passed, $49 and visual was just a 2 min glance.

Haven't posted in years.

I removed my tune, added back the sound tube, and took it in for a tune. Didn't pass because the car had too few miles since the battery had disconnected. Ran for 100 miles then came in and passed.

is the ECU check a visual inspection?.. like the tech just looks at the computer screen to see the name of the ecu tune or is it built into the software check?

I didn't look at the screen. I know the test is entirely digital now. The rollers aren't used at all. People have said the ECU tune is checked, so I went back to stock to be safe. I don't think the car is more or less fun with the stock tune. A little slower, perhaps, but just as fun.

I have a friend who has a boxster with a stage 1 tune and they picked it up and failed him for it, so I’d say going back to stock is mandatory.

I’ve never seen rollers used on obd2 cars, that must’ve stopped well over a decade ago.

Visual and plug into the port as long as I’ve been smogging cars

I remember having my 2005 truck (obd2 car) on the rollers in Cal. Then the next time I needed smog, no rollers. I think your timing is about right. About a decade.

I had to smog our Scion xA and xB back when I sold them, and they both went on rollers. 2004 and 2005, I think, and OBD II as well. But that was the last time I had to smog a car until now. I've either had EVs, sold to dealers, or sold out of state.

Howdy. I'm in Colorado, which just went to California testing standards this year. And, I'm due in February, so I'm trying to get my head around this. Thanks for all the helpful info in this thread.

I've got an aftermarket exhaust (headers back) and ecutek tune with four maps, none stock. Assuming Colorado is in fact doing it just like California, do I have it straight that to pass I should (1) put the stock headers and exhaust back on, and (2) get one of the maps reflashed back to the stock map?

Yes.
Yes.

Don’t forget the secondary cat in the oem front pipe. Unclear to me if you’ve removed it or not.

Yes. You can keep anything after the front pipe still on. But others must be stock headers, OP, FP and stock ECU tune.

Anyone know if I smog my car earlier then needed that the 2 year requirement gets automatically extended?

What I mean is I did a smog on 08/2021 which should last me to 08/2023. If I do a smog this year on 08/2022 then I shouldn't need one till 08/2024, Is this true? anyone have experience with this?
