The MY17 header even on E85 catted or decatted has a sizable TQ dip. I tried to ignore it but its worse that the MY13-16 header as for as that goes. A Gruppe-S header and a OFT can all be scored for under $1k and has been the best bang for the buck for a while now. Why anyone would spend $1.5K on a nice flex fuel ECUtek tune just to handicap it with an inferior OEM header is beyond me.

I truly don't see the fascination with open flash tablets, unless you are on an extremely tight budget or live along way away from a tuner.

Even then, the additional cost of a dyno tune with an actually good tuner isn't that much different than the generic one tune fits all with a "revision or 2".

People will pay for their "ultimate" header, then spend more on a catback than a proper tune?

Maybe people have been bitten by muppets who call themselves tuners but, in truth, are far from it.

Meh
Many people dont live near a reputable shop and require remote tuning. This may start arguments but jesus couldn't tune one of these things na to much over 200whp so if a grand gets me close, I'm happy. If I need more, its time for a different car

Don't get me wrong, I want power, but personally I put reliability over overall power.

Tuning will be much safer (for the engine) when your tuning on a dyno

And there is no point in having 200hp if you cannot lap the car without issues.

I've seen tunes so lean it is amazing that the engine survives street abuse, let alone sustained lapping.

As for distance, I travelled 1000km from QLD to NSW because I wanted my car tuned by someone who was good.

When NA I never got onto the "fix the dip" bandwagon as I never felt is was an big enough issue to warrant the time and money.

Albeit my car only ever ran on 98RON as E85 isn't readily available here.

And after fitting a little turbo to point was mute.

As for the older header, I believe the better torque down low was due to the smaller diameter of the runners, whereas the 17+ with the larger diameter piping had the advantage up higher in the rev range.
