possible new owner questions

im looking at a 13 frs and im wondering what are peoples opinions on the vehicle as a daily as well as performance and such and also in the weather like rain and snow and any other input as well

winter time I don't really go anywhere besides work bc I am not a fan of the cold at all and it only snows maybe once a month or so...and my job is only 5-6 minutes from my home

You'll find tons of opinions on all of those subjects in this forum.

This car you're looking at, is it stock or has it been modified by a previous owner?
Have you driven it? Did you like it?

its a brand new vehicle I believe like 15 miles at most....so bone stock...ive been reading on em and I want a vehicle to last in the long run too and scion/Toyota are reliable bc my other choice is a 14 civic si so im trying to weigh my options

Mine is my DD through summer & winter. Love it. Always puts a smile on my face. Always stare back it while parking and walking away. Always love coming to it to drive home after a day at work. Just passed 10,000 miles.

-Have had no major issues other than some stuff I have yet to take care of with TSBs (crickets, window screetching, rear deck popping) but I'm not complaining I just don't have the time to take care of those right now and they aren't major issues.
-Winter tires are a must. For deeper snow and big storms I recommended some weights in the back to help traction.
- I'm currently averaging 28-29 mpg.
- With the rear seats folding down I've carried plenty of large cargo, I plan on fitting 4 wheels in boxes in there this weekend.
- The car in general is very tail happy (in a good way), and especially in rain. But if you aren't an idiot then this is not a safety issue.

I am looking for better gas mileage and when it rains I don't get on it or anything...I have a cobalt ss turbo now and io get 15 mpg which blows bad...plus I want a vehicle thatll last me for a long time and I know these companies are very reliable

Take a test drive in the FR-S and the Civic.
If you're still undecided after that, buy the Civic...

I DD my frs and I like it. It's comfortable and it makes my commute enjoyable.

It has a small engine so I save money on gas. Also maintenance isn't a damper. The seats are great for my bad back.

I only encounter rain and sun. I can't speak about snow. In the rain the car handles fine.

For a couple grand less than the FR-S, the Civic si is a pretty good bargain. You get all kinds of goodies like fog lights and a spoiler and other such stuff that'll cost extra on the Scion, which is already more expensive. But what you won't get is a car that's considered to be one of the best driver's cars in recent memory. Have a look at the awards that the twins have won over the past few years. You won't even find the Civic listed among the contenders.

I drove mine all winter on winter tires and it worked great, rain and snow. FR-S is apparently a little harsher on street than BRZ due to spring rates, and I can attest to the FR-S harshness. I upgraded to Ohlins Road & Track and my FR-S rides beautifully on road and track now.

Daily driven since November in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. Just don't drive in snow that's deeper than the ground clearance and use appropriate tires. Gas mileage is excellent, and I can easily do 7 hour drives with these seats.

This car is a great daily driver if you can handle it as a daily driver.

You should test drive it, then think "Hey self, can I handle this? Or would I wish the suspension was more squishy and there were a bunch of buttons on the steering wheel and cameras on the back and 19 more speakers?"

It's a simple car, it's made to drive, and that's pretty much it. Also, there's snow. I don't drive cars like this in the snow or when it's raining and below 50 degrees because summer tires get pretty greasy in those conditions. In fact it's pretty irresponsible to drive on summer tires even in 1/4" of snow.

So keep in mind, you're going to need a beater or some snow tires or at the very least get some decent all-seasons put on the stock rims.
