e85 questions
hello, i have a 2013 BRZ with intake, catback and open flash tablet, my next thought would be to go to e85, i hear it can produce a lot of additional ponies when tuned with OFT.
what all must be done to get my car ready for this? and would you consider this to be a good upgrade? thanks everyone! |

really good explanation. To get the most HP out of it? probably a catless header would be a good upgrade. I have an intake, catless header catless front pipe and invidia n1 exhaust and I just went e85 like 3 weeks ago (im about half way through my first tank). i really like it and have no complaints at all. Actually because I have no cats, it actually smells much better than with 93.. really dont even smell it much tbh. also heres a link to the thread i started a few weeks ago for reference: https://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=144029 |

I would personally get headers first, then an e85 tune. Aftermarket headers + e85 tune will get you more ponies.
Are you planning on running a flex fuel kit? Will this be a good upgrade? Yes, e85 will reduce chances of rod knock and blowby. Your engine will be cleaner! Cons of e85 - Bad gas mileage - If you live in cold weather conditions, it will sometimes take more than one try to start it up |

I had planned on going for the rest of the exhaust next, headers, front pipe, not sure if an overpipes really worth it, but for the sake of keeping consistency ill probably replace that also.
currently no flexfuel kit, ill add that to list. Thank you for the info, particularly the bit about cold weather, I live in MI so it gets brisk. Will likely run 93 during the colder months |

Also, if plan on supercharging, you get to keep your aftermarket headers. If you plan on turbocharging, it's probably best to keep your stock headers as they will be replaced anyways. |

I just finished up tuning my car for flex fuel with Zach @ CSG and it was pretty easy. I will remark, it's rather ironic that Austin has very few E85 stations. Still, the commute to the nearest one for me is 15min, so I don't mind.

Mine started in -10°c (14°f) on first crank. An extra con of E85 (ethanol in general), it's hygroscopic, meaning it attracts water. But that can be fixed with daily driving it.
