My introduction to the FR-S was installing the V1 supercharger kit on the set of Motorhead Garage (cable tv show). Prior to taping that show, I had never touched a FR-S nor had I ever seen a complete HKS s/c kit out of the box.

Granted - I had seen the kit installed on cars in Japan so I knew the general layout of everything, but the first time I touched either the kit or car was on that set.

I had none of my own tools. No HKS buddies to help me. Just the car, s/c kit, and the instructions that came with them.

In 8 hours I had the v1 kit installed AND half of it taken back off the car (so we could re-install it again for the shoot). And I am not a mechanic by any stretch of the definition. And I wasn't "busting ass" to get it done, I was actually taking my time to make sure I didn't screw anything up.

So with an average degree of mechanical aptitude, at an average pace, I'm confident you can install it in about 8 hours. Install Saturday. Take me for a ride on Sunday?

Supercharges provide more instant power than turbos due to spoil time. But I would miss the feeling of a turbo spool

Power is just delivered differently. You use more power more of the time with turbos while superchargers are more linear. All down to preference

Maybe you are right. Let me look over a few of the dyno graphs. Buy the end of the month I need to make up my mind and need to be sure what FI to go with. Jackson racing looks good but so does the HKS.

I'm assuming so but does your flash editor's base maps fix CEL's with catless headers?

Also is there any cutting/trimming involved with install?

P0420 is inactive in the 91, 93, and E85 cals.

Yes, there is some cutting & trimming involved but nothing "major." I've attached the instructions so you can review the install.

Here's the dyno chart below along with my current setup. Car is tuned with ECUtek.
- HKS injector upgrade
- HKS oil cooler
- Tomei EL headers
- Tomei front pipe
- Tomei over pipe
- Greddy CS GTS V2 catback
Questions about your oil cooler and set up.
What mounting location did you use?
What version of the kit are you using?
Where did you mount the oil cooler?
How does it do in winters for warm up?
Do you track and monitor oil temps, air intake temps, ambient temps?
I really would love to know how it does for a daily that sees winter but gets tracked hard on a hot day. Any info greatly appreciated.

Bonuses like a pre-tapped oil pans, replacement fittings, hardware, etc are the benefits of being an SBD kit owner... and they all seem to be dealt with immediately by Chris. I would say that the product support of this kit alone is one of the very best features.

That being said, I would still also consider the HKS setup. But the SBD value is very, very hard to beat.

All depends on your intended use right. Track, autocross, street, high hp, etc?
Appreciate that! We have over 700 members now in our Facebook Owner's group!

It's a big family and we try to treat everyone as such.

What is the cost of the HKS S/C Kit?

What does the kit make HP wise maxed out?

Our $2999 base kit w/ Custom Ecutek Tune is capable of 450whp with fuel upgrades.
