TechArt's builds are making the 992's rear grow on me. Still not fond of the wide, black front though.

I've been thinking about this too, but I'm many years away from having the money.

There were <1,900 996 GT3's built. Worldwide, from what I can tell <1k were delivered to the USA.

There are 18 total GT3's within 500 miles of you, <$150k, for sale on Cargurus, none of them are 996's. If it's gotta be a 996 I think whoever said 'Turbo' is correct, if it's gotta be a GT3 then you better start liking 997's and 991's or be willing to book plane tickets to find the unicorn.

idk what I'd buy, I'd go drive a bunch and decide based on what's out there, buying used you take what you can get imho. Or overpay on BaT.

I have to admit the 996s have grown on me. You can find examples with reasonable miles on them for in the area of $40k. Budget $20k+ for an LN 3.8 engine swap and it might be a pretty neat car for around $60k.

Just need to deal with the rest of the niggles that go along with a 20 year old sports car.

That said, I can't see myself doing something like that. The BRZ is like Apple claims their products are; "It just works." For me.

Autotrader is showing me 6 in the country for sale <$150k
Texas, Illinois, Tennessee, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Pennsylvania.

A 7th for $155k also in Pennsylvania.
And an 8th for $195k sold by the illustrious Issimi in Redwood City CA.

Point stands as far as I'm concerned unless you happen to live in Pennsylvania.
I haven't seen one in budget west of Texas yet.

well when you deal with cars like this it’s inevitable that you’ll need to put some effort out and not expect em to show up on your neighborhood car lot so there’s that. You aren’t dealing with a Honda Civic…

All a decent down payment on a small California condo in the bad part of town.

I neck snapped the first 992 I saw in SF, which was a turbo. It was a fleeting second to really analyze it, but it was too bulky. 996/997 dimensions. 991+ the rear bumper is too tall. It lost the squat and hips.

50 to 60k will get you a decent 996 Twin Turbo. No need to swap the motor as it has that wonderful Metzger unit. I had an ‘02 and it was a fantastic car. Had it for 4 years and never had 1 issue with it.

Porsche fanatic here. Currently have a ‘19 GT3RS but have gone up the ranks.

Base “black edition” 991
981 GT4
991.1 GTS

I’d steer clear of 991.1 (‘14-‘16) GT3 due to some engine reliability concerns. They all have 10 year warranties but after that it’s a guessing game.

Best bang for the dollar if you are looking for fun on track is the GT4. GT3 front suspension/brakes/seats. One of my favorite cars and I still think it’s over looked. Plenty of point bys from GT3 owners at track.

991.1 GTS would likely be my go to in your price range. Last NA non GT car. Solid 3.8 engine. If you can find a rwd car, it’s rather unique as it’s got the wide body found in the Carrera 4. A 991 Carrera T with the right options is a good buy too…carbon seats (only offered in GT cars til this point), manual, PCCB and light weight glass. One of the lightest 991 configurations.

996 GT3 is super raw. Likely won’t lose a dollar if you sell it down the road.

992 Carrera is a more refined 991.2 with updated interior. Feels bigger and more cruiser than previous gen (as they all do).

This is still the direction I'm leaning, and for that reason. We'll see how finances go in the next few months. Otherwise I'll wait until next year.
