Updating 2013 86 firmware

Hi all, recently got an Australian 2013 86 GTS. The firmware to the infotainment unit is listed as being last updated in 2012. Is there a way of updating this? Thank you

Can't say for sure since I'm in the US, but I know that with the head unit I have (I have a 2013 86, but have the head unit out of a 2014) the only way to get an update is through the dealer, and what they want for it would put you a good way to just buying a new headunit.

I had the same issue with a 2013 BRZ, Canadian livery. The Canadian cars had Pioneer head units. I just kept searching online for a means to update that particular Pioneer unit, not referencing Subaru. I eventually found a hack that upgraded the entire unit, including the GPS database and turned off some of the annoying things like "must be stopped to input destination changes". Cost me about $35 and was rather easy to install. Unfortunately I cannot find the info on where I ordered it, but it was relatively easy to find on the Google machine.

I'm going to have to find that. Thanks for letting me know exists. Was it a 3rd party hack, or something official from Toyota/Subaru?

@mrhemi, I'm guessing we must have different headunits. I have the Pioneer AHA BeSpoke unit with the Harmon GPS module.

From what I can tell from this document and others, there is a USB module that is required, then a separate license number which is about $150 as I recall. You have to use TIS to install it (hence the 1 hour charge from the shop).

So, almost $250 for a map update, assuming they have a recent one (the most recent part number I could find was for 2014).

Mine was a 3rd party hack. www.avicfix.com. Utilized an SD card. Perhaps contact them to see if they can help out with your particular Pioneer unit. I received a 2017 map update when I did mine a couple of years ago. I see on the website that the now have 2019 map database, $29.95.

Thanks. It may not help with the unit in my 86, but I do have an AVIC in our Suburban that I would love to make some corrections to.

Canada did have a different HU in 2013. I don't know exactly what models they were but we were different for at least 3 years even after the changes in 14.

Website generates a 403 "Forbidden" error. Are they still in business?

Their website worked the day I made that post. Apparently there are wide spread web problems in the world today. Perhaps that is the reason.
