You usually never supposed to reuse a gasket?

Correct, but many gaskets *are* crushed and not really reusable with a coat of copper gasket spray or something.

That said, those are simply drainbacks, not really a big deal if it leaks anyway.

For a dealer, yeah, they are not going to reuse them. If it was me and they were not deformed or cracked, I would not hesitate to reuse them. I completely forgot those were there.

I would as well even though the whole "that o-ring looks fine I don't need a new one" has bitten me in the ass more than once.

If they aren't hardened, they can be reused.

And for those that think they are critical, why do some cars show up from the factory without them?

NASA wasn't too concerned about O-rings either, until they were proven critical.

Would be an interesting test to prove since it's just a vent, but I'd like to see it

Hey, they are there for a reason, but these probably aren't as critical. For all we know there is a correlation between missing O-rings from the factory and sealant in the screen, just no one has put the two together yet.

One answer is not to throttle up to 100%+ when it's freezing. If you're using Morton Thiokol SRBs.

I think those are just giant road flares. Fire & forget.

I don’t think it was a pervasive issue in the 22’s.
If Subaru/Toyota thought it was a big issue they would have issued a recall to drop oil pans (if that is the actual issue) versus paying to drop in new engines from a business/reputation standpoint. I don’t plan to drop my oil pan or worry. Plus I have the 100k 7 year extended factory warranty.

Heh heh, you don't "throttle up" SRBs! They're full on until they are done...
