Oh hell yeah!

How much? Assuming ~$200 for the day, count me IN!!!

I've never been on the track with a car, only motorcycles, so I guess I need the little class

Says in the first post. $180 for people that have done it once before and $220 for beginners.

Since you're Ducati chick... I almost bought a Ducati Monster 796 but decided at the last minute to pay off my debt and see about getting a house instead.

I'm not blond, so I have no excuse for missing the price - my mom's a natural blond though, LOL.

So, did you get the house? I have a Hypermotard 1100, this is my 3rd Ducati after a 95 916 and an 03 ST4s. Never ridden a Monster. Once you go Duc, you never go back...

The date is circled on my calendar and I have the day off. Now if I can get my car tuned between now and the event I will be golden. Registering this weekend.

They don't charge you until the day of the event so register now!

Thumbs down

Just called my insurance company (Allstate) and my car is NOT covered while on the track, even if enrolled in a school.

So, I'm out

I'm nearly positive there's no insurance companies that provide this coverage with your standard insurance policy. You can purchase "track day" insurance but it's quite spendy. I thought the HPDE event was a very safe environment and so long as you don't push beyond you or your cars capabilities it would say it's unlikely you will crash, but not impossible.

No car insurance will cover a car on the track. That's why supplemental track insurance can be had for about $200. The track day is very safe, probably more safe then commuting.

I registered for the HPDE group.

My new brake pads are in transit. After melting the OEM pads and talking with a few of you last time, I went with Carbotech. I talked with Mike Jr. there who said extensive instrumented testing showed that a hybrid XP10/XP8 f/r setup works best for track days.

Mike Jr. was also pretty specific about how to prep rotors for new pads. First, wash them with brake cleaner then sand with #50 grit and wash with cleaner again being careful not to get any cleaner on the new pads. Once the calipers are pivoted out of the way, do the rotors slide right off? It would be much easier working on them off the car.

Then I'd like to bed them in so plan on asking friends at the local airport if I can use the taxiways to do the deed properly.

About insurance, here is the verbiage in my auto policy exclusions page. It appears that I'd be covered since HPDE is neither a driving contest or challenge. Do we have any insurance or legal experts here who can comment? The relevant exclusion says:

"10. Loss to any vehicle while it is being operated in, or in practice for, any driving contest or challenge."

Looking forward to seeing all of you there!
