I'm actually pretty eager to read about a real world experience with this kit from a customer who installed it.
Amen...

The heat soak problem can be partially mitigated by changing the fan settings in the tune. For DD use the biggest problem is heat soak while idling. The fan settings can be changed to blow more at low speeds and while stopped, which could help a lot to prevent melted fans and wires. An oil cooler is definitely recommended though. I would also recommend running the A/C if stuck in stop and go traffic. The A/C fan can help cool the under-hood temperatures.

What exactly will be melting the fans with the Works kit?

And running the AC will make the heat problem worse. The second fan will come on without the AC if there's enough heat to need it.

Why not hook up a thermocouple and a relay to kick them on based on underhood temps when needed.

The stock ECU should already be doing that.

No, fans are switched on by coolant temps rather than engine bay temps. I had to modify the kick on point quite a bit to stop things from melting.

Fans showed some signs of beginning to go and the primary airbox resonator, this was on just a header.

Why don't the fans just run all the time? Is there any time they shouldn't be running?
