Custom turbo setup advice needed

Hey guys, I'm glad I couldn't find this answer, so I'm asking for advice.
I got myself a JDM Toyota CT15B turbo with 60k, now this came out of a stock JDM 1JZ Inline 6, now would it be any good to make this turbo fit into the FA20?

I would be fabricating the manifold and sourcing all other parts, inter cooler piping etc?

Turbo is free so my goal isn't more than 300hp and I do plan on getting a flex fuel kit!

Thanks for your advice

^ like he said if you have to ask a question like that your are probably not ready to build your own setup so just go buy a kit.

The aftermarket guys spend a pile of time and money developing the kits and it isn't as simple as "here is a turbo make it fit".

You may want to talk to Mike BRZ for custom work since he is apparently the best at this sort of thing.

ROFL TCOAT you slay me.

Seriously though do you have any experience/knowledge in either engineering, machining, metal fabrication or tons of mechanical experience? If the answer is not just don't, get a kit.

While you could certainly make it work, that turbo size and specs don't quite fit the bill for a proper and effective FI solution on the fa20... while I'm not certain, it seems with that small of a compressor the setup will fall on its face at the top end above 6k rpm.

At this point the options and prices are fantastic for the BRZ/FRS/GT86 the need for a custom setup is not required or recommend. The other company's have already done the R&D for FI turbo setups and just about all of them have ready good base maps for people who don't want to go to the extreme but fix the biggest issue with the car and its POWER!

A quick google search will tell you it's good for 400hp. So, it's big enough for 300rwhp but not by much.

Nothing wrong with building the turbo setup yourself.

Building a setup around a turbo with 60k on it? Seems a bad choice. Choosing the turbo because it was cheap or free? Bad choice. Talking about flex fuel before the kit is even running on 91? Bad choice.

If you've got mad fabrication skills, go for it. If you want a massive project, go for it. If you want a functioning car, get a kit.

Made this myself around what some would call too small of a turbo, GT2860RS, these are rated to about 360hp. I'm at 12psi on 93 octane and its an absolute blast. I helped offset the small wheels with a large AR housing and a 40mm external wastegate.

I have spare stainless manifold flanges if you decide to jump in.

Everything about your build is sexy as hell. I finally bought a TIG welder thinking I'd be like you, only I discovered I'm not good at it

Sounds just like me, I bought my first TIG not knowing what to do with it. I convinced my boss at the time (mechanic job) to let me wire up the machine in the back, I was on youtube the night before watching video, haven't looked back since. I built my first exhaust with the wrong filler not knowing the difference, it worked but rusted real quick haha
