Lotus Vs. 86

I know there are some Lotus owners out there... What are your thoughts on the Exige or Elise compared to the twins?

I followed an Exige for 5 laps at Chuckwalla valley raceway. It took my 5 laps but I finally got by him. Once by him I left him. I don't know the driver or his skill level but he was pushing it enough to get lose a couple of times. I was very disappointed with the Exige, I would have expected a lot more from it.

Wow. If your car is stock that looks pretty bad on the Exige unless your skill levels are so far different that that's where the equality came from.

Lots of suspension mods done to my car but stock power. 177 at the wheels. I normally run 2.10 laps at Chuckwalla. Nothing fantastic.

Considering the map of the track, the twins better be able to keep up with, if not pass, most vehicles. The twins were meant to run the curves and this would be a track that I'd like to run.

Oops, the track looks fun as 7734, but it would out of my budget. Nor do I have the inclination to visit CA, I'll stick with the farm roads of WI (far better). Come up and visit, we'll go for a run.

Me at Chuckwalla. I had a passenger with me so I was taking it a bit easy.

I owned a Lotus Elise for two years before owning my BRZ (and R32). See my Wheelwell garage for info on what mods I did to it. I also recommend watching some of the comparison video reviews on Youtube.

BRZ/FR-S VS Elise/Exige:

Lotus Elise/Exige
-Handling feel (can't beat Lotus in this area)
-Targa top (hard/soft)
-Quicker even compared to the average turbo/supercharged BRZ
-700lbs lighter
-Exotic looking
-Rare (most are garage queens)
-Spark plugs easier to change
-Smaller diameter tires a little cheaper
-Steering wheel size is tiny and great
-No power steering to numb the feel (doesn't have power steering at all)
-More smiles per mile (unless you drive a long way in one sitting then smiles go down because of the lack of support in the seats
-Women (and men) more likely to have sex with you just because you own one.
-Lots of attention and compliments (pictures, random people talking with you, etc)
-Less stuff to go wrong (car is less complex)
-05 Elise has a cable throttle instead of electronic, which I kind of like (although a little harder to tune and can't have features like launch control, etc)

BRZ/FR-S advantages:
-Ride comfort and seat comfort
-Progressive and controllable at the limit (no snap oversteer like Elise/Exige)
-Cheaper to repair bodywork
-Slightly better selection for aftermarket parts
-More room for people and cargo
-Slightly quieter
-LSD helps loss of traction (unless get later Elise/Exige optioned with LSD)
-Better interior, stereo
-People won't flip you off or call you an ass hole randomly just because you own one
-Boxer engine sound can be brought out with UEL headers
-Easier to find a new or used car to purchase *buy mine
-Telescoping and tilt wheel (Elise/Exige is fixed)
-Seats slide and tilt (Elise/Exige only slide and only drivers side)

Both are:
-Easy to work on
-Around the same price (older used Elise vs new BRZ)
-Easily Tuneable/modable
-Get about the same gas mileage (untuned/FIed)

I'm sure I missed some points but that's a good start.

I've heard this flag referred to as the "British car ahead" flag

The Lotus now a days are only 10% British so I never saw one of those when I had mine. 90% Toyota 10% British. Sort of like the 86/BRZ/FR-S. 95% Subaru 5% Toyota.
