Not the greatest pics... I've gotta clean up the car and install a little longer front studs before I can go anywhere for better pics. Only 5.5 turns of lug nut engagement with 13mm front spacer compared to the 10mm spacer I was using before with the Enkeis, not quite enough!

These are the APEX VS-5RS, 17x9 ET48

Alright, going back to a BRZ after selling my first gen in 2019 and I pledged for a set of 17x8 VS5RS before receiving the car

Can we get a clarification about the 17x8 faces? All the materials indicate they should look the same as 17x8.5, but is that really the case? I have never seen an actual picture of a 17x8 I think, so it would help a lot if you could post some.

Thanks!

DocWalt's post a few above yours shows the 17x9 ET48, which has the same C2 face profile as the 17x8 ET40, so that should give you a pretty solid idea...

Yea I saw the pics of other sizes with the C2 face, which is why I joined the group buy, but Im still curious to see an actual set of 17x8s.

Would you take measurements please? Place a flat edge (example: carpenter level) across the spoke face at its highest spots, then measure the gap to the edge of the rim and to the center cap. This will provide a relative face height/convex profile for offset comparisons. At ET44 the gap is ~9mm to the rim edge and ~50mm to the center cap.
It may be that offset is attained by altering some other dimension, but then spoke height measuring may provide something better than imaginative squinting.

I remembered that the folks from APEX had posted a link to their wheel configurator a few pages back. It shows a picture of the selected wheel, and if you scroll down the page it also shows a cutaway to illustrate the face profile. Here's a link with the 17x8 ET40 selected.

*NOTE: Not all the fitments are on the configurator, and there are cutaways for all the listed VS-5RS fitments, but not for the 17" SM-10RS fitments.

From what I gather, a C2 face is a C2 face, regardless of offset - I.E. the spoke shape and convexity / concavity vs. the rim are the same. The difference in offset is added / subtracted on the back face of the wheel hub and machining the bolt holes accordingly.

Given that, the wheel face on DocWalt's car should look identical to a 17x8 ET40, only about 4.7mm further outboard in the rear (due to the 25.4mm additional wheel width divided by two, for 12.7mm on the outboard side, minus the additional 8mm in positive offset, so 12.7 - 8.0 = 4.7). In the front, due to his 13mm spacers, they would actually be 17.7mm further outboard than a 17x8 ET40 mounted without spacers.

If the difference is only the back face, then AP 8350 caliper clearance would be affected by moving the spokes inward. This is one reason I would like a known measurement to see if there was a trend in the past manufacturing run. This point of comparison could be moot, because sometimes there is a difference between engineering specifications and production product. Example: Apex couldn't verify my wheel would clear the AP 8350 caliper (13.01.10153 Sprint kit) before I took a leap of faith and found out for myself.

In the image below the gap between VS-5RS 17x8.5 ET44 version spoke and AP 8350 caliper at the narrowest point is less than 4.1mm.
