i thought that as well at first. when i had the tab folded back, the mirror didn't tilt high enough to give me a good rear view. i looked at it with the black tab down and knew it didn't look right. you have a beautiful frameless mirror but then there's this ugly black tab sticking down. then i started looking at some jdm 86/brz brochure pics and saw that they all had the tab folded back. after playing with it some more, i realized that there are 2 pivot points on the mirror, and this allowed me to tilt the mirror higher to give me the optimal rear view. i believe there's only 1 pivot point on the stock mirror.

I think the default position is up for day driving. It is in all the car owners manual I've read. I believe it is because you won't see the tab for most of the driving. |

It's amazing just how much sexier that frameless mirror looks! Forget the Homelink mirror - I'll find a way to make that work elsewhere!

Just installed this. Thanks for the DIY. One thing that tripped me up for a second is when you say "Now insert the other clip into the mirror by inserting the hairpin end first...." This makes it sound as if you place the clip into the mirror, but I think you're supposed to put the clip into the BASE. You do go on to say "...then pushing the sides into the WINDSHIELD BASE".
The way I did it, and what I think you mean, is that you put the clip into the windshield base, then screw on the new mirror (thereby putting the clip into the new mirror). Pretty obvious, but just to clear this up even further for others. |

I just got mine. I just used my fingers to pinch the clip out. Looks about the same... switched it out just in case. Looks good clean and pretty... all the guys at my shop says everything made overseas looks better and everything the US gets is BS....
Took about 1 - 2 mins to do. Most of the time was wasted opening box and taking pics, lol |

@thatWESguy @sbxjap @ducks @Turbowned @F1point4 or anybody else who has this, for the ball joint that is closer to the windshield mount, is that in a fixed position (cannot be adjusted)? If so, is the bracket arm centered, angled to the left (so mirror is closer to driver's side), or angled right (closer to passenger)? See pic below.
I looked at my stock USDM mirror and it angles to the left. The ball joint closer to windsheld seems to be in a fixed position/not adjustable. I could only adjust the ball joint attached to the mirror's backing like you do when you normally adjust rear view mirrors.

*shrug* I just snapped it in and angled the mirror so that I could see out the back window. Sorry.

I didn't pay attention. It seems the same as stock as for where the ball joint is. Seems centered... I think? Lol
Ill have to look again, but I think it's both adjustable |
