At some point new cars need to be ST classed. I can understand not classing immediately but look at the Toyota Supra. Does it have an ST class yet? No. And it's been out for almost 3 years now. This classing philosophy is hurting the club and hurting membership. It's hard to get new members when half the classes are stuck in the 90s.

Yes, it has a proposed ST class. It was too fast for STU so they made a new class. They recognized the issue and are fixing it. The ACs and SEB are doing a good job, if you want to bitch about stuff, go bitch about national office.

Yeah I agree that the supra looks a bit too quick for STU, most of those cars are ~300whp and around 3,100 lbs rwd or 3400 lbs awd while the Supra in ST trim should be nearing 400whp at 3,100 lbs. I think it looks faster on paper then the real world would turn out to be, there's only so much power that's useful in autocross on 200tw tires but it's a dimensionally smaller car then the 86 and coilovers and alignment should significantly up it's game from BS trim.
As above there's a proposal kicking around to make a faster ST class or put faster cars into STU, I don't recall where the preference is because I can't afford it either way and haven't been paying attention lol. The Supra and other cars of similar capability are also not made in huge numbers, one thing I do appreciate about the SCCA is that they try to not make a car with only a few thousand on the road as the car to have. There are less then 10k supras in the us right now most with a fairly hefty price tag when you can get into a built Stu car for under $30k if you're savvy. Edit: 4 banger Supra might be a good fit for Stu |

3" wider and a 4" shorter wheelbase then an FR-S.
Width impacts are course dependent whether there are more slaloms or offsets/sweepers. |

Thing about the Supra is that David Marcus has went out and won everything but nats in that car the last couple years and I still can just about count the number of Supras that I've seen at an autocross with one hand.

This for sure. Maybe in California they are running a lot of the Supras but I've only ever seen two in our region and the surrounding ones.

Not really, nobody committed showing up in NorCal, can also count on one hand the supras I've seen at an autocross.

Then that makes me a little sad. I actually like the Supra but it's just too expensive for me at this point in life. I've been impressed with the ones I've seen but I just don't see many.

I spent years as a recruiting chief trying to bring new people into this sport and the SCCA. It's difficult to tell someone their new model car doesn't have a class yet so they have to run time only or jump into something ridiculous like XP. It's less popular than many other cars but there is also a loose relationship between favorable/available classing of a car and the number of people who will drive that car at an SCCA autocross.

I haven't seen any Supras at any events here in PA in three different regions. I'd say likely too expensive, but at one point we had 8+ CTRs showing up in DS.
Glad to see STX is safe for now. I think the twin is going to be putting down some crazy fast times once modified to ST trim, likely on par with STR. Problem is, it's not a roadster, so it doesn't technically fit there by name. STU doesn't seem to fit either, but that would be the other option. Again, just happy it's not in STX... yet. I have a 2017 with the PP and eventually want to go to STX and be competitive. DS is difficult with tons of CTRs and national champs in them... and many of them are ditching them this upcoming year already. They can't seem to stay in a car more than a year or two.
