Like Keiichi said, GR is like the "Lexus" version of the GT86. Steering feel/feedback from gen 1 is better than gen 2

I don't know how "severe" I'd consider autocross, but personally I wouldn't recommend driving for 5500 miles on factory oil. I changed mine at 1040 miles, right before my first autocross.

Or log data, especially if you're saying it should be tested on the track anyways.
Data log would be good but could also just record the sudden and unpredictable drop that kills it.

My question for Subaru is why continue killing engines with RTV instead of switching to anaerobic sealants or rubber seals in cast-in grooves as are widely used by their competitors.

simplicity/cost. just like everything else. the sealant, robotic programming, and application costs are easily going to be cheaper than a custom multi-process mold.

just like every other oem. "we just build 'em, we don't need to service 'em!"

what i'd like to know is why the aftermarket isn't stepping up with a replacement gasket...

First thing I did after reading this thread was go to the Fel-Pro website. Wish they had one.

we all know that RTV degrades with thermal cycling and gets harder with age + thermal cycling (-25C to 70C) so it would make sense that cars that went through the first winter in Japan or US and were driven everyday might see more of this excess RTV fall off in the pan. NVH of a sportscar will help shake it off.

No way to get my borescope up the pickup tube, sadly.

I went by the dealer today. The field engineer had been out there and inspected it. They told me that they had couple of theories why the rod spun, but nothing conclusive. They did let me take pictures, so judge yourself.

The spun rod was the one closest to the front of the engine.
