Novice review of Maxxis Victra RC-1
Through 86CUP, Maxxis and @CounterSpace Garage, there was a great deal on the Maxxis Victra RC-1 which I couldn’t pass up.
This was my first time ever on R compound tires, previously using Hankook RS-3 I had no idea what to expect. I had them mounted on a new set of RPF1s for the track day that was only 3 days away. I instantly noticed how much quieter and more comfortable they were on the street compared to the RS-3. I was informed by @CSG Mike to change my front camber settings to something more conservative in the front if I planned to daily these after the track event (currently -3.5). On to the fun stuff, I arrived to Streets of Willow and set the tires to a warm 32 psi, I went out and warmed them up over 1 lap. Once the final turn came up I gave it everything and there was no loss of traction in the straight away in 3rd through 5th, not much of a surprise so far but where I really started to see this things shine is on the first turn. I was able to throttle through corners like never before. I was always hesitant with the RS3 because they would break loose on these types of turns with any heavy throttle. I continued to push each lap and every lap they continued to grab more and more, I did about 8-10 hot laps per session over 6 sessions and these never gave out at any period. The tire pressure stayed consistent throughout the day at about 36 hot and I didn’t want to play with it because it was already working very well. I ended up getting a personal best of 1:27 mid day and it was 85 degrees out. My times were improving throughout the day regardless of the temp rising. It was a good feeling to take the bowl turn in 4th and be able to use the throttle through most of it. I would highly recommend these tires to anyone looking to move on to R compounds, the experience these gave me was highly addictive and makes me want to get back out to the track already. I also took these out on the skidpad during lunch for a bit of fun. If anyone has any questions I will try my best to answer them. TL;DR old tire hankook rs3 245/40/17 new tire maxxis victra rc-1 235/40/17 turbo brz needed more grip and RC-1 answered.

Thanks for the review. Hopefully I can get my hands on a set of these next year up here in Canada for a reasonable price.

Glad you liked them, but going to a 100tw from a 200tw tire more grip is to be expected i think.

Fair enough, not all compounds are created equal.
