A little harsh, maybe.... but well written. They also bring up some very valid points about cross shopped possibilities and the overall fate of the vehicle.

Even oem turbo cars can be grenades. No thanks. Ironically the 86 is one of the few sports cars your average motor journalist could actually afford to own. Maybe thats what bothers them?

Disagree... I find the article to be a poor example of journalism because it can't seem to get out of the author's own misguided perspective about the BRZ's design/performance goals. Where the author should start is at Toyota & Subaru's actual stated design, performance and market goals. Not his impression of it. This is a sophomoric approach that shouldn't have made it past an editor.

The article spends most of its' time talking about cars that are not seriously cross shopped with BRZ's by anyone other than hairdressers and hockey moms who would probably end up with a Veloster anyhow. If a person wants a BIG coupe wannabe muscle car (like an Ecotec Mustang or entry level Camaro), they buy one. Not a straw weight sports car.

Lastly, a second generation has all but been confirmed by the head of Subaru. The fate of the car is to continue to be produced. The article is crap.

IDK, the author hit the highlights (and low lights) of the refresh and gave some performance comparisons.

Judging by how many people "upgrade" to mustangs, 370z's, Camaros etc I would say the cross shopping example is, at least somewhat valid.

Nissans 240 lasted several generations as well..... Guess what everyone in America wanted in their car? The SR20 from the Japanese cars that was refused to the North American market. Still the most common swap for the KA when it goes (although LS swaps are becoming more common!)

You are doing it again! Not "everyone" wanted any such thing. A small but vocal minority maybe but still a far cry from "everyone". The swaps may be the most common TALKED ABOUT but I bet just as many of the stock engines (if they can be found) went back in than were swapped. The FRS/86/BRZ are the same way. A minority want more HP but since they speak up and the ones that are happy don't the perception is "everyone" wants it.

"light, cheap, fast: pick two"

the armchair demand for everything all at once is insufferable.

you ask them "how about a 370Z??" "yea but...it's too heavyyyy"

dunno what they want exactly.

They clearly only care about numbers and stats...on a car that excels at things that can't be measured by numbers and stats. And they obviously haven't seen the threads on here about FRS/BRZ owners who traded in for a pony car and regretted it.
