Ok, thanks. I guess from your photos it just looks like one of the oil lines runs along the bottom of the radiator and it's plastic sheath is slightly exposed to the elements. But maybe when the front bumper is back on this is a non issue.

I'm really leaning toward getting this kit, it looks top notch.

As for the core itself, it's like any other oil cooler mounted in the front bumper. If you are paranoid about that, the air guide that Blitz has allows you the ability to mount your own custom metal mesh in front for added protection.

It is no more exposed than the AC condenser or any other part of the front end of the car. If you hit anything that will damage the line, I think the oil lines would be the last thing you'd want to worry about...

Impressive write up and step by step process...I have to admit i was initially turned off by the price point but after seeing the final install pics i'm very impressed. By far the best looking from all of the Oil Coolers i've seen posted on here, i always feel the engine bay was the eye sore of most oil coolers but this is the cleanest by far...

I'm curious as well what's the pouch for? Also does the go pro case always stay there?

Yup it's a transponder pouch for track days.

As for GoPro case, I usually take it off when I'm not using it. Rocks on the road easily chip the case.

You mentioned the thermostat on this unit opens up at 75c/167f - do you feel this is too early if the car will be experiencing short (~2 mile) trips daily? Just trying to figure out if installing this would be detrimental to the oil getting up to operating temp during short trips.

Any oil cooler will be bad if you are worried about 2 mile short trips. The only ones that won't be an issue is Forester/Cusco type coolers.

Even with the thermostat open, I can only get up to around 85C max oil temp in normal driving.

There's no issues with short trips as long as you are able to get oil temps up on a regular basis to burn off water/contaminants.

Hm, ok, thank you for the help.

"Regular basis" for me is usually only super aggressive canyon carving once a month sadly with the rest of my driving being 2 mile commutes twice a day.

If you want the benefits of an oil cooler, look into the Cusco oil cooler or Forester setup.

It reduces temps by about 15 degrees at the top but is much better for daily drive.

hah, I was just looking at the retail prices and I was like "wtf! $700!?" and at that point it seemed more worthwhile just to get the Blitz/Perrin.
