Question about installing sandwich plate
Hey guys, probably a bit of a stupid question but I've just done an oil change and will be installing a sandwich plate soon for oil temp/pressure gauges. (I know, should've done that first before the oil change)
Just wondering if it's ok to remove the oil filter, install the plate then reinstall the same filter? Thanks! |

Will be fine. But you don't need a sandwich plate for that. There is a bolt I removed on the top of the engine for my oil temp and you can T off or replace the stock oil pressure switch since it's just a dumb light.

So, what runs the gauge on the dash? Just curious as I am new to the platform.

Go with the sandwich plate for a simpler, more easily returned to stock, set-up. No problem on removing and reinstalling the filter, just lube some oil on the O-rings of the sandwich plate.
However, my own set-up is a Pivot dual gauge (plugs into the OBD port under the dash) for oil/water temp. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Pivot-Dual-...W/263955166799 For oil pressure (not available through the OBD), I have a Cusco oil pressure gauge mounted in a vent pod right above the vent-mounted Pivot. The Cusco sender is remote-mounted from the oil gallery port at the engine top with a length of braided line. The sandwich plate would be a simpler approach for oil pressure. |

There is a built in pressure gauge but it's just a dummy switch. The light comes on when the oil pressure is low but by then, it's already too late. So you'd be plugging in an aftermarket one that you can monitor the pressure with in it's place. You can T into it so keep the light off.

I am running aftermarket pressure sensor in that location, left the stock oil temp sensor so I could log it on my OFT.

I'm in the same boat as well - looking for a sandwich plate to install a pressure sensor. However, I don't even know where to get these parts. I saw a TRD adapter, but it's well over $150.
For those who have installed the sandwich style adapter and sensor, what did you buy? Is your gauge connected to the battery, or mechanical? If battery, how did you tap into the fuse box? Are there any holes in the firewall, or did you drill one to run the cables? |
