whats up with this?

I was planning on purchasing a Borla axleback exhaust from someone on craigslist.

The picture they posted looks different than the Borla axlebacks online. Can anyone tell me why these are different? The craigslist one clearly looks smaller.

V1?V2? Part of a catback or something?

Not seeing it listed under BRZ parts on the official Borla website so buy at your own risk. Could be a catback for a WRX that happens to fit on a BRZ, as I've heard that many exhaust systems are compatible between the two.

Yea looks like the Borla in the first pic is different from the FT86 one. Check out the hanger locations they are different. Also it could be because the actual muffler is larger in the FT86 pic.

So I texted the guy selling it and asked him where it was from and he said that it was a dealer option and came on the car from the dealer.

Could this be why they are different? Would Borla offer items to a dealer that the general public wouldn't be able to purchase?

EDIT:

Okay so I think the Borla exhaust that comes from the dealer is in fact different. I found this video and at around 45 seconds they show the Borla exhaust and it looks like the one from the craigslist post.

Also found another thread where someone else had the Borla exhaust from the dealer it is the same as the craigslist one.

This sounds very unlikely to me. Buy at your own risk.

Edit: ok I see the video. Guess it might be ok, just never heard of a dealer doing that.

I recall reading about a dealership that had a "borla exhaust" on every single frs on the lot. If I recall correctly, they weren't an off the shelf item, and all were made by an exhaust shop. They look like the one you posted.

The dealer option Borla axleback is different from the direct-to-consumer Borla axleback, for unknown reasons.

Yes, but, I feel like there was a dealer Florida that had exhaust shop ones done up for all their cars.

I'll find the thread when I'm less lazy.

Though I could be going crazy and I'm entirely wrong.

regardless, it still looks kind of sketchy to me. unless you're paying like $100, don't buy it.

Borla had two axlebacks available outside the dealership. Touring and Type S. Pretty sure the Type S was a smaller casing and the "sport" version which was louder.

This was the thread someone mentioned about the dealer installed axleback. Not sure if that's your part or not.

Borla has 2 axle backs:

I have this one:
FR-S/ BRZ 2013-2016 Axle-Back Exhaust Touring part # 11839
https://www.borla.com/products/frs_b...rt__11839.html

and this is the dealer option, and EC-Type approved (Europe legal), which is why it is the dealer option:
BRZ/GT86 2013-2014 part # 1014034
https://www.borla.com/products/brzgt...__1014034.html

@Highweigh I remember getting so irritated when I first saw that video, first the whistle tips and then him rapping his knuckles on the trunk of an unsold car.

I still find this sketchy.
Look at the welds at the pipe to housing joints and where the tips join here:

Now look at the joints on the real thing:

Of course it could be a cut rate lower value exhaust made for the dealers but damn that is a huge difference in quality (at least visually).
