Interesting...just got info that the Subaru U.S. Field service engineers have been scheduled training on the CB18 engine that has been recently EPA certified for 2 unnamed 2022 models. Likely the return of the Forester XT and possibly the BRZ.
Looking for secondary confirmation...

EDIT: I guess I forgot that Forester was the only one left without a turbo, so nevermind. |

So the CB18 is a 1.8L 175hp/221 tq. turbo flat 4.....
Introduced on the new Subaru Levorg. What would be the ideal applications for this motor? |

Probably anything that currently uses a 2.0 would make sense in all but the most budget trims of the Impreza and Crosstrek. Every journalist complains about Subaru's 2.0 being woefully underwhelming, especially in the Crosstrek, which at 3,200 lbs, only has 152hp.
Given the torque figure, it would even make sense to replace the FB25, especially if they could tune it closer to 190~200 in heavier applications. That would leave them with 2 engines in North America if they completely phase out the FA20, which it looks like they might if the new WRX and 86/BRZ are going to the FA24 (in turbo and non-turbo form). From an engineering standpoint, simplifiying your powertrain offerings makes sense as they push towards EVs. |

I've heard that we are not getting any new twin variants because Toyota is pushing the Yaris GR in AU as the new "sports car".
My take on this is WTF. The only thing I dislike more that AWD is FWD. Meh

I would say once the twins are extinct we may, but meh, I don't like/trust BMW long term reliability so I would never own a Zupra anyway.

Hmm.. some people started talking and in fact blaming Subaru about quality issues. For example the front bumper gap issue that Subaru didn't manage to solve after 7 years and the paint quality in certain models. Is this maybe a first sign that the 2nd generation is not coming after all?

The quality “issues” are more indicative of the price point than anything else. Things like the bumper sag show up more for people that put it on and off to mod. There were not many reports of later models having it at all even then. The paint is the result of them not upgrading their application system when the VOC changes came out in 2011. It isn’t restricted to the Twins since they paint other vehicles in the same manner.
