This is my favourite online tyre/wheel fit calculator.

I've got three sets of wheels now and this calculator was valuable in not only choosing the offset I wanted but also the tyre size.

Give it a try http://www.willtheyfit.com/index.php...et2=42#content

I've pre-populated with the stock 18" tyre size for you but you may want to put the original 17" wheels in a there as the "before".

This is absolutely brilliant. Thank you for this. This has helped me so much now.

So, when putting in my existing settings, it seems that by having these size wheels of 18x8.5 and tires of 235/40, the setup will be about 13mm closer to the strut. With me getting these in Falken tires, I'm hoping that it won't affect it too much by rubbing on it on a full turn.

I picked up a set of rpf1's with 245/45/17 tires on them with a lot of life left. Do you guys think I should ditch them for 245/40's or just run them ? I feel like they might look a little too tall if I do decide to keep them

13mm closer will be fine. I'm running 18 x 9.5" +45 with 255/35/18 tyres all around (yes we spell it with a "y" down here). Put that in compared to what you have now and you'll see they are far closer to the strut than yours. Mine just rub at full lock so you should have no rubbing on the strut.

I have coilovers and the TRD narrower race springs as I think mine were too close for the stock suspension.

Although taller the 245/45 will fill the guards more. With only 12mm difference I'd try them first as you might actually prefer the look.

Here's the comparison. I've guessed at wheel size and offset but you're only talking tyre size so it's irrelevant anyway.

Well I just took 10 minutes out my day to try the look lol and I think I actually might run these until theyre shot and just get new tires next season. It looks pretty good IMO

Oh and they're 17x9+45

ah that makes sense, you gain A LOT of room one you roll, which is funny because there isn't much to really roll

honestly, thats such a tiny sidewall and a 235 on an 8.5 is already a slight stretch i think.

i would honestly got with a 245/40 all around so that you at least have some tire and not rubber bands. 245/40 is stock STi tire size on an 8.5 wheel. i know its not OEM diameter, but still.

you should be okay with that though, if anything you could always add a 5mm spacer up front if you're having issues.

He's running 18 inch wheels. 245/40 on an 18 is over an inch bigger than stock. 245/40 on a 17 is meaty but in correct diameter. I have a set on order for my 17x8 inch wheels so I can finally partake in this thread.

Nice stance... Any rubbing or fender work?

yes i can read. i know he is on 18's.

this thread is not for people that want to stick within the stock diameters.

a 235/35 is going to be stretched and have small sidewall. 245/40 is the more appropriate tire to run on an 8.5' rim in order to be "square". this is not a discussion about what will be closest to OEM specs. this is a thread for people who want to run appropriate tire sizes on wide wheels. 265's on a 9.5 etc etc.

here is 245/40 on an 18x8.75. a 235/35 would have been a rubber band in my mind. notice how it has an ever so slight stretch with a 245. this car is on eibach pro kit only. no fender mods, no rubs no issues.

also you will notice that the thread title is meaty tire thread. so 255+ would be meaty, everything else is just normal.

I think I've reminded people before that this thread is for 255's and up. But for some reason people think 235's and 245's are meaty SMH. Go back to the beginning people and read.

For a lot of people, meaty tires are sidewall HEIGHT, not some 275/25 rubber band on 19's. I personally don't think anything on an 18+ qualifies at a meaty tire. But this argument has been going on pretty much every car forum since the dawn of Gore's internet.
