i was leaving mine stock until i paid it off. hopefully early next year i'll be getting a few things i've wanted, coilovers being one of those things. i'll be leaving the drivetrain stock though, aside from the trd intake i want to get. the only things i had to do were a short shifter and the jdm gt86 exhaust tips, because those oem frs tips are so tiny and lame haha. coils, wheels and a few other suspension bits are all i really want to do...i've done enough with past cars, i just want to keep this one simple.

Modding is creative. Forums like this are an amazing wealth of information to tailor a car to your tastes. Do I really need a turbo, headers, turboback 3" exhaust, coilovers, 18's and a body kit? Hell no.
More fun than a mass produced BMW or Cayman?
Hell yes.

I felt sorta the same way, but that lasted about 10 minutes, depending on how you define modding. Everything I've done has been cosmetic to date, and could be "undone" if there was any real value in a unmodded F-RS with a low VIN and the first sold in Georgia. I have all the parts in a box, for what its worth.

Of course, since I already have almost 60K miles on my car and I tend to keep a car until the wheels fall off, I'm not sure it really matters. I fully expect to put 300,000 miles on the FRS. Maybe my great-grandson will find it as a barn find one day and make something valuable out of it.

Let me tell you about a little story of how the whole point of my car was to keep it stock and reliable and fun when I bought it, and how I ordered parts before I even took delivery and broke that promise.

$18k in mods later...

In hindsight, if I didn't track the car, I think I'd be pretty happy with it stock. The only mod I'd really want is a Perrin non-resonated CBE since the stock exhaust looks and sounds awful.

When it comes time to spend $$$ to go faster, I found out that it is best to spend it on the nut behind the wheel. The car gets traded every so often and the value of the parts depreciates by the hour. The investment in driving skills stays around and keep paying off.

Great advice! Anyone can start inexpensively at your local autocross. Its a blast and you will learn a lot about yourself and your car.

I found out I was a lousy autocross driver!

I traced it back to a lack of talent, but it is fun to get on course and for some legal hoonage.

I really want some lighter wheels, but that is pretty much it. Oh, and some JDM exhaust tips I added over the summer.

Lack of talent or lack of practice?
I was ok back in the day with cars I didn't care too much about but now I would probably be over cautious thinking "Oh god, may car, my car, my car, my car" the whole time.
