The lack of information from Toyota is so frustrating.

I'm not sure if I can wait for this car to be released anymore...

especially if it is going to be watered down like this report suggests

Guys...

Guys... this car as far as we're concerned does not exist... yet. All this speculation and "changes" are just fodder that magazines, blogs and people feeding to the public for attention.

Everyone wants hits or issues of their mag / website to go so post something controversial that Toyota can't refute or comment on.

Me? Gonna wait.

As for people who were complaining about the price of $25k and up - how many 20-25 year olds can actually afford a new vehicle? That's usually around university / college time so they are probably heavily in debt. Never a good market if your audience is heavily in debt. Now people who have graduated and have paid off loans on the other hand... GREAT market because they are probably shackle free (no loans, no wife / kids most likely) and thus willing to spend.

30-40 is just within that "no kid... yet" range and this car is not supposed to be obscenely priced (yet) so it slides in quite nicely. While I'm not 30 yet, I am in this financial bracket so it makes perfect sense. Just about everone I know of my age is in this financial bracket so its spot on. If it's even 3/4 as good as the hype indicates, I already have my downpayment in CASH. Heck if they released it tomorrow, I'd throw my money down.

1. This is actually old news. They mentioned this some time ago. http://www.7tune.com/086a-target-mar...ge-power-drop/

2. Scion is their "youth market" brand, so take this for what its worth...

3. A few grand more is no biggie for the first genuinely exciting Toyota in quite some time.

Fuck this "news". Bring on the production model pics already...

I'm only responding to this for the folks at Toyota who are reading this:

Do it, and I'm getting a Hyundai. You already have to compete for the nearly 150 hp difference in the V6 trim. The leather interior. Plus their ridiculous warranty. I was already on the fence about the FT86 because I kinda sorta need a car now. I would have waited, but seriously... I'm going to verify from Autocar. But you probably just lost a buyer. I've had a 1985 MR2 ever since I could drive, and just knowing that Toyoda is not Toyota anymore fumes me up a little.

"Prestige". ok. I'ma just leave it at that. Not gonna go there, not in the mood today. I will say that if it lives up to the potential/hype it could be just as legendary.

But in small-town USA where I live and have the option of driving 15 miles of windy backroads through amish farms just to get to the movie theater, most 16-35 yr olds would be all over this car if it comes out to be <$25k, I see Mustangs and WRXs everywhere (although those damn Fusions are taking over). Just don't make it too heavy with fluff for chubby old men or it will be pointless over a 370z which will be around $20k used in good condition by then.

Believe me, you are not the only one. I'd probably keep it forever too and ask to be buried in it. I am torn between it and the RUF RT-12 though.

I knooooooooowwwwww. As much as I love the motor, the sound, the character I wonder what it'd be like under boost. Probably would go like STINK. Titanium Alloy connecting rods and valve train, forged aluminum pistons, forged steel crank.... oh yeah, it'd be impressive under boost (once CR is taken care of)... 800hp anyone?

I have no doubt that this car could become legendary if it lives up to the hype/potential. Im just saying that to most people, BMW > Toyota, in terms of the badge on the front of the car, thats all I ment by "prestige." Im not arguing that one is better then the other, they have both made incredible cars.

Lets just hope the FT86 lives up to what we want from it.

In a car for this purpose and intent, who the hell cares?
Furthermore, the E30 was built at a time where BMW wasn't that "prestigious" Expensive yes... Prestigious... not so much.

Is my point clear now? I have a lot more to say on that bit, but I'm not interested in getting into it right now.

I assume the Hyundai V6 you are talking about is the Genesis Coupe V6? The coupe that costs $33k CDn MSRP? The coupe that with this monster of an engine producing 300+ hp, weighs in over 1540kg, has a 55/45 or worse weight split?

Versus a car that doesn't exist?

Also, you don't "kinda sorta need a car now". You either need one or you don't. What's wrong with the '85 MR2? I used to have an '87 NA MR2 - loved that bugger to death (unrequited though) but had to sell it to weather winters to go to work. That is why I am patiently waiting for this car to come out. Seems to be the closest thing I can find to that MR2 without having to buy second hand (ah the new car smell!).

Also, "ever since I could drive" doesn't help your case. I don't see how that's a compelling arguement here.

At $33k CDn price, we're talking in league with WRX, Mini Cooper S, Camaro and even BMW 1 series. So go buy one of those.

Cheers.

Those who talk the most generally have the least to say.
