Dealership is charging me $1725 to replace my OEM clutch for BR-Z

How much is an OEM flywheel? Aftermarket one's I've dealt with on other Japanese imports are usually in the $400 range. I wouldn't be shocked if the OEM one from a dealer would be a good bit more expensive than that.

Just because there is oil doesn't mean there is slip. The gears are directly inter-meshed. The only reason they're immersed in an oil bath is to lubricate the gears. The gears in a manual transmission are immersed in an oil bath as well. As far as the manual vs auto gas mileage debate, that while using hyper-miling techniques you could probably get better gas mileage in a manual, the simple fact of the matter is that the computer is typically much more diligent at keeping the transmission in the right gear for gas mileage than your typical human.

"direct drive" manual has a miniscule amount of slippage compared to a "slush box",and the gear ratios in a manual are different too.

You obviously know nothing about how transmissions area actually constructed and what makes them work.

If your slipping that often on every upshift you seriously have got to start releasing faster. I'm not saying dump it but find the point where it feels uncomfortable and dial it back from there till you get it right. If that doesn't work then adjust your grab point so it's lower; I personally hate a mid to high grab point so on my SVT I set my clutch to start grabbing damn near an inch off the floor .

Actually the Subaru warranty covers wear items except tires.

On a normal clutch service we resurface the flywheel. However the cost of doing the labor on a clutch job is reduced if we don't have to send the flywheel out to be resurfaced and are just replacing it. Usually this is if the owner wants a lightweight flywheel or they have destroyed the original flywheel beyond where a resurface would be able to fix it.

$495 for Labor w/o Resurface
$575 for Labor w/Resurface

Those are for a WRX, again the FRS/BRZ would likely be less than that due to the RWD v. AWD.

Going on the WRX OEM Flywheel, we sell it for about $250ish. I don't see the OEM FRS/BRZ being any different.

I have an FRS and Toyota does not cover wear items but thanks and that I don't have to read I've worked for Toyota for 10years.
