this isnt directed toward you in any way but i just think its a little funny that people will bash all the competition because the frs will be lighter and more focused on driving experience but then say that they want things like rich interior and push starts

I believe the push button start is only on the Limited model? Or at least "Keyless Access and Start" is only on the limited model. And honestly, if they have a button but you still need to put the key in, it's not that cool. The upgraded interior is also on the Limited, too. I think part of the dispute between BRZ and FRS is that we are comparing the very basic Scion to the upper level Subaru. Not that premium doesn't offer anything. You get HIDs and Navigation. I guess we'll just have to see how much it all costs.

You don't need a key buddy, its a proximity key so you just keep the fob in your pocket, touch the sensor on the door to unlock get in and just press the engine start button.

How does one get into the car if the battery dies with the doors locked?

Keyless go fobs usually have a pull/push out key that you can use to unlock/lock the vehicle.

Use the key.
Pull the key out.
Stick it in the key hole.
And turn.
Get in and pop the hood.
Jump the battery.

I know it's proximity for the limited model. I meant I don't know what's on the premium. Is it the good old fashioned key?

Honesty

New to the site, just wanted to chime in...

The answer lies within the prospective owner. It's a personal choice at the end of the day. You make your decision based on the information you have obtained through your research. If you don't do the research, then neither are the car for you.

Personally I am leaning towards the FR-S. I'm going to have to touch it before I buy, but i'm on the waiting list and I am excited to be one of the firsts to touch the virgin. Hehe. The interior isn't too much different to the BRZ. Stock stereo in the FR-S is Pioneer, same as my Scion. It's not the best, but it can still kick.

Bottom line, when I think of Subie I think of Off Road. Yea the WRX STi is bad ass, but Subaru has never had that sleek look, the BRZ throw's me off a little bit from their usual. When I think of Toyota I first think of my all time fav., Supra, then of course Lexus LFA. The FR-s may be the thing to give the Scion brand their credibility (not sure that's the word I want to use, but i think you get my point). Yea, the Subaru may have a STi version of the BRZ. BUT when asked if turbo might be put into the FR-s Tatsuya Tada just giggled...

Maybe for stupid reasons, FR-s is the car I choose. Personal Choice.

The Scion display was a perfect image of the Scion brand, stuck-up, young-ish, douche-baggy looking people, who felt like they were too good to be even talking to you. Just simply horrible, they seem to be going with that kind of image, and that just rubs me the wrong way.
Subaru on the other hand had knowledgeable presenters (of course they didn't reveal any new information, but at least they knew what they were talking about).
Scion people said mid-20s for the FRS, and around $25xxx is the subie, so that's a win for subie, FRS has to start at least $3k less for it to sell.
On top of that, Scion had the Lava Red version on display. Obviously they have no clue that red color in general is the hardest for digital camera to reproduce correctly, so I have a ton of nice looking, color-correct BRZ pictures, and just as many off-color FRS ones. True, this is my camera wrong-doing, but most people don't go to the auto show with pro-level cameras.
For a car that is supposed to save the Scion brand, they lacked everything, not even a keychain or a small brochure. Lack of brochures was blamed on the fact that the "car wasn't released yet, so we don't have anything" and yet subaru managed to have a small print brochure for the BRZ, even though "it's not yet released"

Final thought, since the Scion brand is all about "we give you a basic car, and everything else is a-la carte," then why isn't the stripped down version available in the US?
As just buying my Scion TC, I know that the last sentance you wrote is incorrect. Scion comes with things stock that MOST cars DO NOT. Such as Pioneer Stereo, Sun Roof, automatic windows all around (was surprised to see Nissan does not have automatic for passenger), and 18" gun metal grey rims; among other things. This is the reason I kinda fell in love with Scion a bit harder than I ever dreamed.

Scion does make it easier for after market parts, since they will do the work for you (at least my dealer will).

I was at the Chicago auto show as well, and they didn't seem like they thought they were better than anyone. Sure they were younger, but the brand is aimed at the younger crowd. It is more inviting to talk to someone closer to your own age. However, they would talk to anyone and answer questions as best they could. Subaru was friendly, too. I don't think I dealt with anyone there that was outright mean or had measured me up before I even spoke.

I couldn't decide which I liked better at the show. I really liked the look of the Alcantera leather in the BRZ, but I prefer the exterior of the FRS. If I had to make a choice today, I'd go with the FRS, but I'll have plenty of time to decide.

"SCION" is simply Toyota, and i have bigger respect for Toyota than Sbuaru, so anyone bashing the Scion brand would be the same as saying that "acura is shit, you should buy a honda." Derp.

Wouldn't Acura be equivalent to Lexus, not Scion?
