FR-S v.s. BRZ

My first post here... :)

I had the question in mind about the FR-S v.s. Genesis Coupe but after reading the thread and remembering the test drive I had with GC 3.8, I was not sold on that car.

But now a more difficult choice is that, which company will you pick:

Toyota/Scion or Subaru?

Which dealer would you like to deal with a Scion dealer or Subaru dealer?

Which one would have a better quality built?

Which car (based on manufacture & name) will have a better resell value?

Which one would connect driver to the car and road?

Or Will you wait for the BRZ STi version and call it Subaru only?

Reasonable comments are invited!

Depends on pricing, features, interiors, exterior appearance and options IMO.

Scion dealer is closer but I have friends at the Subaru dealer so that's where it would go regardless.

Same quality, it's the same car being built on the same factory floor.

The resale will likely be about the same (% wise) since they are basically the same car.

THEY ARE THE SAME CAR, both will drive the same.

There may never be an STI (not STi unless this is 2005..) version. There will be one most likely but it won't be sold until a few years from now.

Thx Dave, good info on both being built in the same factory.
BTW, when I drove the GC I had the same impression as you had...

I think this car WILL sell a lot!

I'm getting the Subaru version mainly cause I have a friend that is the GM at Subaru. He says there may not even be an STi version. But if there is one it won't be till 2013

I wonder about service. Will Scion dealers work on BRZs and will Subaru dealers work on FR-Ss?

Whichever has the options I want for less money. I don't care which badge is on it.

Toyota/Scion or Subaru?
-I'll decide once I see the final/official vehicle

Which dealer would you like to deal with a Scion dealer or Subaru dealer?
-Going to wait until the price for both vehicles has been announced along with with what will be standard, which models are available and options

Which one would have a better quality built?
-Both
Toyota did the planning and design. Subaru did the engineering, and will build both versions at its Gunma plant in Japan. Both cars will initially be identical, apart from front and rear bumper fascias, badging, and detail equipment levels. We haven't sat in the Scion yet, but we've driven the BRZ, albeit a heavily camouflaged prototype. First impressions are good. Very good.

Which car (based on manufacture & name) will have a better resell value?
Probably the Scion

Which one would connect driver to the car and road?
Both

Or Will you wait for the BRZ STi version and call it Subaru only?
So far it's just a rumor

Subaru. between the FT86 and the BRZ leaked production pictures I personally like the BRZ' lines better. To me a similar physical comparison would be a Lotus Elise(ft86) and an Evora(BRZ) the Elise has a more aggressive front end vs the Evora's wide flat front end. So if they make the BRZ look similar to the STI concept ill take that one. (I know its a horrible comparison for an overall car comparison between the Elise and the Evora. It was just meant to show changes in appearance not whole car dynamics.)
Or Will you wait for the BRZ STi version and call it Subaru only?
If the rumors are true for a 2013/2014 STI version release i will more than like get that one due to the fact that's when i plan on buying a new car.

December issue of motor trend that came out today on the iPad has a 5 page article on the Subaru BRZ.
A few things I saw I liked are:
Possibly more power down the road but they would not say if it was a turbo or not.
And it was mentioned before but it was designed from the beginning to be easily made into a convertible. I know a lot of people here are not into a convertible but I love scenery and live near the mountains and I love cars. I like the scion looks but would get a subaru if it had more power and a convertible in a year.

Whatever is the best value but most likely scion.

I will answer this question about March next year...

SUB-FT86 11-05-2011 01:12 PM

I want the Toyota face and the Subaru rear end. That would make me proud.

The Scion brand is too inmature for my taste. If I buy the Scion I'll swap badges ASAP.
my big concern will be insurance price, Scion has a horrible reputation
with insurance companies mostly because teenagers buy n crash em all the time. I quoted insurance for a 2011 scion tc and it was more expensive than my 370z and wrx!!! :iono:
