If that math is solid it does seem like a reasonable number. Well, a number I find acceptable.
This has been discussed in another thread on here. Your correct about the 30K guess. It's purely that, a guess.

I'm sure the conversation went something like this:

Contest Management: "Hey Scion, thanks again for giving us this awesome car to give away. But you forgot to tell us what the price is and we need to know for insurance purposes. What was the final price again? "

Scion: "Final price actually hasn't been announced yet. But just to give you some sort of figure, how does 30K sound? We're targeting for less then this anyway."

Contest Management: "Perfect! Thanks again for the quick response and free car!!"

Offcially pricing isn't even going to happen until atleast April. So until April comes, I wouldn't read too much into this. The 30K number you see in the fine print is purely for insurance purposes.

FYI - if you guys didn't know, everytime you see one of those "Win 1 Million Dollars" contests, they don't actually have a million bucks on stand by. The company running the contest actually buys insurance just incase someone actually wins. The insurance actually pays out the prize when its actually won.

No winner = no payout and the insurance company wins. Winner = payout and insurance company loses. This is why I wouldn't read too much into the declared value of the car. It's simply a guess on the high side to cover their butts.

Not sure how "insurance purposes" would apply here. It's not like a lottery where there may or may not be a winner of a lot of money. They say the drawing will be in October 2012 so there WILL be a winner - they know 1 car will be given away. It's not a "chance" that the car will be given away like winning the lottery. If anything Toyota/Scion canada's marketing department just uses this car as marketing and the cost of the car entered in as "marketing/advertisement costs" in their books.

I don't know much about Quebec law but I assume that if there's a contest to win something, the equivalent cash value should probably be outlined in the fine print before the entrants are allowed to submit. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

A few more issues - TPMS is not mandated in Canada and it's useless since so many of us have separate winter wheels. Hyundai cars in CA don't have it yet US do. Canada also gets different tires (legal issues selling summer tires no matter how "lame" people think they are) may cause issues as well.

So I think we're still going to see some more differences....

Guy at a Subaru dealer said the BRZ is going to be between 30 & 35K

I live in Toronto, Ontario.

FML that is super pricey!

I hope the FR-S comes in wayyy lower than that!

That's WRX money. And retarded.

Smaller car + no turbo + no AWD + co-developed with another company = should be way less money than a WRX.

They don't know anyways. Scion contest small print said price is revealed in June, I think.

TBH... 30k OTD is VERY expensive for the FRS...

The way I see it, BRZ limited @ 30k otd is crazy expensive... so the frs 30k otd is stupid.

25-26otd... wouldn't pay more then 26otd.

Sorry should have said liability issues. STI for instance has that big plaque on the door telling all about how summers are not suitable for snow, and Hyundai put diff tires on for Canada that did better in the snow than the US ones.

I just meant there MAY be more differences for us than just no red stitching and heated mirrors.

I'm still hoping that we get heated seats standard, and NO tpms (ala Hyundai)
