Its not bad for this particular application, but its far from the latest and greatest. Imagine running windows XP instead of 7. 90% of your everyday stuff will still work, but it might not be as pretty, and some stuff might not be great, but it should work just fine.

I believe the newest android OS is 4.2 Jellybean....right?

Just had a few questions on the unit CA-FI before I decide to order one and I hope you guys can help answer them. It loosk great on paper.

1.) The USB Port

Can I connect a USB hub to it to allow multiple USB devices such as a WiFi adapter and a USB hard drive? Does it support a USB hard drive?

2.) iPhones

Does this device support the iPhone? In particular the iPhone 5.

3.) Mapping

Does this units GPS device work with apps like TomTom, Google Maps, etc or are you basically using your cellphone via teathering?

4.) HD Radio

Is there any way to run HD radio through this device such as through a USB HD Radio tuner?

5.) DAC

What are the specifications on this units DAC? Does it allow for time alignment or bi-amping?

Don't bother with the Ca-Fi. I recently returned mine because it was faulty and they didn't even adhere to their policy (reimbursement for shipping). So I'm out 177$. There are better alternatives on eBay.

But to answer your questions...

1 - Yes, all android head units (even the knockoffs) supported this.
2 - Yes/No. Anything with the old style of connector works fine. The new iPhones will not work over wires. Bluetooth, should work however... Does any stereo work with the new ones?
3 - Yes.
4 - No.
5 - Not much is said about it other than 5V pre outs. Their latest updated caused hissing when playing files from the "music" app. Playing anything from an iPod, FM, or Bluetooth worked fine.

Faulty how?

The hissing isn't really reassuring. I feel like I'm going to have to go with the Clarion unit and give up any hope of DVD playback. I wanted the Ca-Fi version in particular for the capactive touch screen which is something I haven't see any other ICE manufacturer use yet.

You're welcome.

The problem I was having was that it stopped starting with the car. Once I started the car, the buttons would light up but nothing came on the screen. I would have to force it to shut down (hold the volume knob down). Then turn it on the same way.

After your statement about the hissing I don't know that I'd trust the unit, even the knock off one from eBay. How long did you have it before this problem occured? Sounds almost like a gain was set wrong or a connection was open.

It was after a software update they sent me. Wasn't hardware related. Only related to Ca-Fi's custom music app. I've had no issues with the knockoff.

Erisin model

I'm wondering also about this unit too:

http://www.erisin.com/erisin-es8035a...wifi_p389.html

Also found on e-bay for a bit more:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/ES8035A-7-HD..._Video&vxp=mtr

It APPEARS one can stream data over bluetooth with this unit. I do like the idea of the DVR add-on, which would make for cool instant recording of a dash cam.

^Seems very interesting, but almost too good to be true at that price IMO. I'm no techno-wizz kid either so I might be wrong. Probably a prejudice, but it looks like some shady faulty chinese imitation of an actual product.

Didn't take long to find out why I'm uncertain when it comes to chinese electronics

In comments some other people have been through the same thing.

Yea, it's really hit or miss. The ca-fi knockoffs seem to be pretty well built (for a chinese unit). I haven't had a single issue with mine. I don't trust the ones with motorized faces or detachable tablets.
