IMO, this statement is false. Post a pic, of a combo that fits on a twin, where the tire protects the wheel from being curbed.

Here is a 245/40/17 on a 17x7.5 wheel. Which is too narrow of a wheel for the tire. See how much the tire protects it, none.

Goodyear Eagle Asym II
Hankook iIce

All three of those protected the stock rims.
I have "touched" curbs in my car on a few occasions, and have zero curb rash on the rims.

I could go get a picture now of the winter tires, but I dont have them for the others.

I can/could curb any wheels. One time, I popped 4 tires and bent 4 wheels at the same time. Tires do not protect wheels, excellent (careful) driving protects wheels.

Michelins and Bridgestones seem to have the padding to save the wheel if sized appropriately.

In hindsight all my curb rash occurred when I had Dunlops on.

I think what we have here is two different definitions of "curbing" a wheel. If hitting a curb hard enough to pop tires and bend wheels is the definition we go with then ya there is no tire that is going to save you.
If we run with the rolling your wheels against a curb at low speed then many tires will protect the wheel.
Many tires even have a part specifically called a "rim protector" built right into them.

It was your phrasing. Tires are intended for a range of rim widths. The manufacturer does not prescribe a specific look exactly. Also, claiming it "won't" happen is way too absolute for the previous statement of "grind your wheels on the curb".

I get that you had the tires save your wheels. But, I was young and stupid and thought that the tire "rim protection lip" would save my wheels when I was learning to parallel park. It doesn't.

BR-Z limited, put an FR-S front end on when I finally rebuilt it and started driving it. I actually plugged the sound generator to make it quieter. This thing isn't getting the ear bleeding exhaust like my spyders.

I like "too loud" around town (in this area the noise laws are very lax) but on the highway over hours and hours it bothers me. Some mornings even 30 mins of drone gets on my last nerve. My last car had bad drone and was stupid loud. Fun setting off car alarms but not so much fun at 6am going to work and the coffee hasn't kicked in yet.

when I got the Berk dual exit, it was a wee bit too droney. I had a cherry bomb welded into the mid pipe and it reduced the highway drone to nothing. I'm very happy with this setup now even with no cats.
