NHTSA?
New Sonata is relatively new, and quality has improved over the last gen, but It got 2 recalls and 1 steering column investigation.
I remember the first recall was a few weeks after release date.

It's funny I still see some 90s + Hyundai's on the road and the new ones haven't been out long enough to stand the test of time.
SOME. I also see some Jaguars on the road.

Edit: Some old Jags though. I also see some crappy Chevy and Ford from 90' on the road. However, I see a ton of Accord, Camry, Civic, Corolla from 90s on the road.

I never really paid attention to older Hyundai cars in general mainly because I find them ugly so that's why I said some 90's+ cars.

And I'm not saying Korean cars are unreliable. They were unreliable though. I just said there are improvements over the last gen, but reliability is still not on par with Toyota and Honda.
All Toyota/Lexus cars my family bought from 1980s are still running. I know it because they were told to my dad's friends. They have been driven by many drivers over the years. My dad's old 89 Camry crashed more than 10 times by his friends, it's still running. Same thing can't be said about 1990s Korean cars.

Toyota and Honda have had their share of recalls and especially Toyota as of late. :oh gasp:

If you're talking about in present day, then why does Hyundai feel confident to have a 100,000 mile 10 year warranty and Toyota and Honda do not?

Probably. Why roll in a Hyundai when daddy will buy you an M3 for graduating?

Reminds me of a mainland Chinese exchange student that I had for ESL once. Kid was going to high school here, English was atrocious, made no effort to learn when I corrected him, and all he wanted to talk about was whether he should ask for an M6 or an AMG C63 for graduation from his dad. He knew nothing about cars, didn't have his licence and didn't even know what a manual transmission was...

And that might be the only two cars he knew to brag about, simply based on price rather than performance or anything. If you poke them further, they would have nothing to tell you of how great(?) the M6 or AMG C63 are.

100K miles/10year warranty is nothing. They do that to make people feel good owning the car. Dealer can dishonor the warranty for many reasons.

Toyota pedal recall? I didn't bring my car to replace the pedal. Here I am still driving the car and add another 15K miles.
Toyota floormate? It takes less than 1 mins to replace the floormate.
Unintentional acceleration in Toyota cars had been investigated for a year, what did NASA find?

Don't know about Honda though.

I don't know why the public line and public perception is that NASA didn't find component failures. They absolutely *did* find the dreaded "tin whiskering" on tin plated copper leads on an accelerator pedal position sensor causing malfunction.

The particular short they found was somewhat benign, but still considered "undriveable".
It isn't hard to imagine that another short across different terminals or multiple shorts *could* cause unintended acceleration.

If they find it's a failure, there would be another recall already. And don't forget that how many companies use the same supplier as Toyota.
Read page 27.

They found one car with tin whiskering, which can't cause the kind of unintended acceleration Toyota was blamed for. Another Toyota recall? Well, GM could use the help, again
