The ability to fire someone comes down to corporate HR practices. I was a director at two companies in the medical field, one a lab company and one a hospital system.

At the lab company I could fire someone on my own volition. In 8 years, did it twice. Told HR this person was going to be gone by the end of the day, they put together the paperwork and enough said. One guy I actually fired on the spot for refusing to do a specific task that was his to do.

At the hospital system it literally took 6 to 12 months to fire someone, and even then if they "played the game" right you couldn't do it. (which sounds like the situation you describe). I finally gave up trying to fire them and basically worked to make them quit.

November has been a big month. Turned the big 70. We celebrated by going on a Rhine River cruise. Basel Switzerland to Nuremburg. Fantastic trip. We just got home yesterday evening, so today is recovery day. Getting used to 6 hour time difference and a day of airplanes and airports.

Where is that town, so as I can steer clear of it when I am in Oregon?

I will say, my comment was more about people who spend more effort promoting themselves than actually doing the job. Which may or may not apply you your situation.

To your point, my previous company actually kept a few expensive net-negatives around as lay-off fodder. Despite their demonstrated detrimental effect on productivity, it was easier to lay them off in the bad times. The sad part is I think they were in the $150k salary range...

East of Salem about 8 miles on hwy 22 headed towards Bend. It’s off the highway though. They have been hitting that highway hard though. Yesterday they had 7 county motorcycle cops. They pulled over 161 people on the report I read this morning.

That’s kinda what’s happening with him. He behaves well enough to make it past the probationary period and then does something dumb. Just Monday he got busted clocking in on his mobile app while not at work. 3 weeks after his last final warning expired….

I see that a lot more now that I work at a giant corporation. I swear some guys send emails just to make it look like they are working on something to everyone in leadership in the country. Sometimes I want to reply all and ask why I can’t get something simple fixed instead
