Oh, and go back to stock brake compound too. I know you've got quite a bit more track time than myself , hehe.

As for 2000-2003 cars under $50K? Personally I would and did take a MR-S + $10K over the S2K and saved 400lbs doing so. The S2K has always struck me as a bigger, faster, more expensive Miata neither of which was as involving or roomy as the MR or as practical as the 86.

Honestly watching people go ga-ga over how amaaaazing the S2K driving experience is really is no different than others fawning over how the 86, Mini Cooper or current Miata handles like a go kart, none of which are true. Drive an MR, Lotus or Atom and you'll just roll your eyes at some of these "ultimate driving machine" comments.

The S2K is it's own set of compromises and I'd say appeals more to those that want a drop top and have only one or two slots to spare in their garage. FWIW, I've had no problem keeping up with or passing some S2Ks on Ortega Hwy so if you're on the fence I wouldn't worry about the 86 not being able to hang even on Prius tires. You can see the same on some track videos too comparing both cars, of course the diver it ultimately the last word on who or what's faster.
Once again, you guys are taking "inspired by" to mean much more than I meant it to. I didn't say it's an F1 replica. Come on. There are just various hints and nods... This was honda celebrating its history in a sports car, and they have a rich history.

What, really, is your point about Lotuses and Ariel Atoms? They cost MUCH more. Hell yeah, I'd take an Atom if I could afford it. I'd probably scoop up a stock FR-S to daily and keep all track thrills exclusive to the Atom.

The MR2 is good, but it needs a motor swap to be great. I'd love to try out a K20 MR2. The main point about the S2000 is its potential. Of course, it has compromises. All cars do. It has a lot going for it for the price you can pick one up for used. It doesn't take much to have a reliable 400whp S2000, which completely transforms the car, and it DOES handle better than many, many other sports cars. How many other cars handle this well, weigh around this much, and will make 400whp with a supercharger slapped on a stock motor? It can easily excel at autocross, time attack, circuit/road racing, and even drag racing with some drivetrain upgrades. Kings Performance has 8 second S2000s. Evasive has record holding time attack S2000s. The Top Fuel/Voltex S2000 competes on the highest level in World Time Attack among the fastest and most modified Silvias, Evos, and RX7s in the world.... Give credit where credit is due.

A lotus isn't much more expensive than the s2k when it was still in circulation.

Nowadays, a used elise for about $25 grand is about the cheapest one can be had, isn't it? For that price you can have a 400whp FI S2000 fully setup for the track with aftermarket suspension, wheels, and r-compound tires, and it's a good bit cheaper to deal with problems if something goes wrong. I really like Lotuses. I love all light cars that handle well, but you have to look at value for the money...

in 2006, a lotus elise MSRP was 43k. They just hold their value better than a S2k I guess.

Are we increasing the FRS's power or decreasing the S2000's power?

I don't get where you are going with this... Are you just trying to get at that you think the chassis and suspension is better on the FR-S/BRZ vs the S2000? I mean where do you stop on that? I bet that if we take an 86 and lower its power to that of a CRX Si (115hp?) that the CRX would "overall be the faster vehicle".

Either or. I'm saying as long as the power levels are the same, the BRZ/FRS would overall be the faster vehicle. Maybe there are certain sections where the S2000 can rotate better, but overall it should be slower.

If you take the 86 and lower it to CRX level, the 86 would still be the overall better vehicle.

All I'm saying is the s2000's trump card is it's power. Take that away, and the 86 is faster overall, simply because it is mostly better everyplace else.
