Just a quick correction / additional info... I cam across a manual section that was in relation to some VVT codes. It states that:
Bank 1 refers to the bank that includes the No. 1 cylinder*. 6/4/2012 10:29 PMFA20 ENGINE CONTROL: SFI SYSTEM: P0016-P0019: Crankshaft Pos... 7 of 10 https://techinfo.toyota.com/t3Portal...S0U/xhtml/RM00... *: The No. 1 cylinder is the cylinder which is farthest from transmission. Bank 2 refers to the bank that does not include the No. 1 cylinder. However, I did not find any similar notes when looking up the DI codes you had. I still believe that in relation to the specific codes you got: P117B Direct Injector Fuel Performance P1171 Bank 1 too lean the Bank 1 reference is meaningless, since there is no mention of P0174 (system too lean bank 2) or P0175 (system too rich bank2) in the service manual. Also, since there is only 1 primary 02 sensor there is no way for the system to differentiate between which "bank" is rich or lean.

Just out of curiosity, has there been any record of a Subaru dealer acknowledging this issue? All the instances I read of Subaru, have involved fighting with the dealer LOL. Good to know Scion at least takes care of their cars.

check the oil see if it looks milky or discolored as well as the coolant. hopefully they did that already. they also make an exhaust gas tester you can hook up to check for coolant that way as well. but ya white smoke and sweet smell sounds like a head gasket

Yes, coolant in the chamber will certainly cause a misfire.

Yeah, the tester is the best way for sure. Sometimes they start by only leaking a little bit under high load, not enough to detect visually in the oil etc.. but the gas tester never lies.

So, I'm planning on getting FI soon. Anything I should tell my tuner to do, or check, to make sure I don't have any DI issues?
If i go with this tuner, I believe this will be the first FRS/BRZ that they have done a turbo install/tune on, so I want to be armed with as much info as possible. I've already noted things like the fuel pump install (O-rings and spacer) but if there's anything else they should look for, or avoid, I'd love to know before hand. |
