Thanks, I was planning on using an inline fuse but your solution with a 3rd relay seems a bit safer.

Hmm. The downside to the diagram I posted above is that in the event the second relay gets stuck in the non-energized position (30 feeding to 87a), switching on the lights will send 12v to both low and high. I'm going to take a multimeter and check the oem setup to find out if switching on the lights does indeed cut power to the led hi wire

Ouch, yeah that would not be cool. I've had it happen to me but with the horn - I had to rip the wires out to make it stop.
If I do go this route I'll use the best quality relays possible. Bosch if I can find them.

Yeah, I could get it working I guess but I don't want to cut any wires.

I agree. Rather have it done right or not at all.

Unfortunately not, I need the wiring diagram for our headlights and they are definitely wired different to the rest I've seen on this forum. I can't figure out how to activate bright mode.

So this is my thought on this situation. Seems like my car uses pin #1 for LED high mode. However, the LED low mode is actually missing from the harness. Therefore, there is no techstream flash that can enable the LEDs on the north american spec cars. 12v to pin #1 should enable bright LEDs when the headlights are off. 12v to pin #3 should enable dim LEDs to be on when headlights are off. Now, I have to find a extra pin to use in slot number 3 as mine is blank. Also, I need to find a source of 12v when the headlights are on. At the moment, i am thinking of tapping 12v from the parking light harness that is really close. My main concern is this to be 100% reversible and clean looking edit*** don't try this at home kids. These are strictly based on wiring diagrams and looking at my harness. My test tool is out of batteries so nothing has been confirmed. |
