Well from my point of view I would want a full size alloy as a spare incase(when) my wife gutters the rims.

If no alloy, space saver would be nice.

Wow, I live in rural QLD and the nearest big city to me which I frequent is a 10 hr drive away, a complete spare tyre is kinda important for these drives. coz if break down in the middle of nowhere in the outback, kangaroos will stare me down to death lol. emailed my dealer, waiting on his response on what they'll offer me in recompense.

Just had a chat with my dealer this afternoon......its a decision from TMCA, way above level. Nothing to do with individual dealer as the bulletin was supposed to be private & confidential, not for public eyes, thanks to some of the member over the forum, the news been spread out so quickly n widely until the level of TMCA got caught by surprise and most probably still figuring what to do with the public outrage.
Some dealer might compensate u with something but expected most dealer would do nothing about it.....bad luck, if you don't want it, roll over, there is always a next person very happy to take your place. Having said that, he disagree what TMCA did and he think the decision is stupid, as Subaru keep their promises on the other end, it make Toyota looks very BAD.... we're talking about the brand image down the track.
He suggested those who was not happy about this should write them a email or even fair trade, worst come to worst, we can BOMB TMCA Official FB page with comments, heaps of comments, thousands? to make them look bad and perhaps set thing right in the end.
I don't even bargain or anything when i sign the contract, i just want what i signed for, nothing more, nothing less.

P/S: It's not official yet because TMCA haven't make any public announcement regarding this as what we saw is internal P&C document.

You guys who say you don't care whether you get a spare wheel or not are missing the point.

This is a backdoor way for Toyota to raise the price on people who have a contract to purchase a car of certain specification.

If people don't kick up a huge fuss over this absolutely appalling attempt by Toyota's to screw contracted buyers, then they'll delete more from your car.

So you don't care about the spare wheel. What about the LSD? Maybe the 17" rims? Or the bigger brakes on the GTS? Maybe the sat-nav? Maybe the better interior specification?

Toyota will just keep despec'ing the car unless people make it completely clear that it is unacceptable behaviour.

I now know what Toyota mean when they say 'Oh what a feeling', and it sure as hell isn't a pleasant feeling.

This first time Toyota buyer as almost certain to be a last time Toyota buyer as well.

yep, you're exactly right. buyers beware. if you bought a GTS and are waiting up to 6-12 months, Toyota would have deleted so many of the options, that by the time you'll get your car you'll actually receive a spec even LOWER than the GT itself.

what an outrage!!

I have emailed TMCA and let my dealer know as well.

Currently they (my dealer) here in WA Perth, have absolutely no idea on what's happening and I can see today there's still tons of people coming and looking at the 86.

They'll be in for a shock!

Damn that sucks, not a deal breaker and I'll get over it but the attitude by toyota Australia is a bit shit.

Sure I get it that the decision will probably save them a few hundred grand and increase their margins. They know noone will cancel because of a spare tyre but how much is goodwill or reputation worth? More then a spare tyre I reckon.

All this rubbish about removing features from the car reminds me of a Honda forum. Do you honestly think this is the first of many deletions? If so, get out now. It's the apocalypse and I'm along for the ride. Yeehaw!

I find it laughable that anyone says a full size spare was one of their main motivating factors for buying. I think no matter what was deleted people would be up in arms. Manufacturers do it all the time. Its just this time it has been done on an enthusiast car, and enthusiasts make the most noise on the internet when this stuff happens. I've informed my customers and not one of them reacted the way some of you have.

By all means, cancel your order. It'll help those people who genuinely love this car get theirs earlier.

First world problems? Some people are acting like two year olds.

It's not that a big of a deal I guess, I'm obviously less informed then yourself as this is my first new car purchase and didn't realize it was common place within the industry.

It was more the principal I was commenting on as Toyota Aus know they have people exactly where they want them and that is because people do love this car and wont cancel even if they start removing features. Its all about the $ in the end, I get that and if that allows them to continue to make these kind of cars affordable in the future then I'm all for it.
