Looks like we won't have to wait long until we have more information. The SEB has already said they're responding to it in the next fasttrack

Looks like it's time to start demodding... Or switch over to X.
Maybe we can get them to allow e85 on gen1 cars.

I lurk here but never post. I spoke with a STAC member over the weekend. Nothing is official, but the impression I got was all the Gen 1 STX owners can relax and Gen 2 cars are going to have to wait for something else to happen.
I was told a consideration was for the 2017-2020 gen 1 cars.....misfits in Street class, not eligible for SSC, and only competitive in STX. A 3 y/o car shouldn't be put out to pasture in ST. |

Or just run ESP with e85 and 225 Hoosiers.

I sent my letter in the day it came out. STM needs to happen.
Also to comment on the 17-20 twins. They can compete in STX still. At the Frederick OK Pro I drove Bruce’s car for the super challenge since my axle broke for Sunday morning runs. Didn’t get to do a single run. Super bummed about that. The car felt good on 255’s. Just have to shift to 3rd a bit sooner. So I guess it’s a bit course dependent. But not enough to write them off I think. |

However, I didn't fully think it through. SSC was immediately off the chart. Then the gen 2 was announced literally ~2 months after I picked mine up used. Went from CS to DS after the first year of owning it... hello CTR, Elantra N, gen 2 twins. Pretty much after about a year or two I went from having a "nice new car" IMO, to "yeah that's old, when are you upgrading to the gen 2?" ... STX is still certainly in play longer term, but I've always hated SCCA classing. I've been doing this for over a decade now and you really need to keep up with the Jones's. In our region, I'm by far the oldest car in DS with a 2017 now. Everyone has 2021+'s of whatever. You basically need a 1-2 year old car to be competitive in any street class anymore. Street touring classes are the way once a car is ~5 years old. I don't love SSC as I know the Koni and Eibach spring combination makes the car ride basically on the bumpstops. I just never pull the trigger on STX. The minute you put some camber into these cars and wider tires, you're good. Hell, the Elantra N gets about 2.6 degrees up front I believe... stock. BRZ gets 1 if you're lucky.

X is calling but I dunno if I really want to go that far... Fun with aero and more engine tuning room. Maybe. But I'm now looking at the cost and just not sure I want to bother. Didn't notice it before or I may not have even gone with the build I have. Who knows. You're either in it to win or for fun. I'm on the fun side. There's less these days as the folks I used to compete with are sometimes in another class, some of them never even around... Off doing other kinds of racing.

Autocross is A reason for me to have the car. Not THE reason. I bought my car because I like it and I like to modify it to have fun with it. At this point I'm in ESP because of the fun of PAX/RTP since XA is a higher PAX. However, I also like HPDE and Time Trials so building the car to do those things is what I want it to do as well and, again, the car is fun. If someone wants to buy/build a car specifically for SCCA Solo then that's their prerogative for sure but it's not mine and I'm a Solo chair and SCCA Region Director. The car and the fun seem like they should drive the competition rather than the reverse.

Sooooo... with all the oiling issues for the 2nd gen car, I decided to skip a GR86 purchase.
And I still have all my STX parts. And I might have bought another gen1 car (picking it up Tuesday). I am tempted to SSC it because STX seems a bit volatile classing wise, and obv the running costs are lower (and I can sell all my STX parts). But I am definitely tempted to follow heart over mind and re-build my STX car. Would welcome feedback. |

Also you can come play at the packwood pro if you start thrashing after work today hope to see you on Saturday Given that stx is the largest st class at nats this year I think we’re safe for at least one more year in the mk1’s. But I could be wrong, less sensical changes have been made before. |

Ha, picking up the car in a few hours, I probably *could* actually thrash and get it done.
Drove SSC at NT, and offer stands to run SSC for the pro but I think i'm actually going to skip out. I think new car needs a tune and otherwise I probably have everything. Be kind of fun to actually build the car the next 3 days but since I'm taking off on a 2.5 week vacation next week that will not happen. edit: new car is STX lite -- has mcs 2wnr, some sort of header + exhaust, AP racing brake kit, TWS forged wheels, etc. |

It seems like the feedback is overwhelmingly towards keeping STX as is, to an absurd degree, so I'm guessing it will be a few years before they try to upend STX again.
And SSC sucks. And you already have the parts. So do STX. |
