Fwiw, the Mk3 was a true to the bones GT car. The mk4 was classified as a sports car, and actually shed some weight over the mk3 in the U.S. market.
If you were to ask me, I'd say if Toyota wants to make another "Supra", then it has to embody what the Supra really was: amazing performance and reliability at the lowest price possible. That's it. In the early 80's the Supra was known as the affordable Porsche. I'd just stick with that idea if I were an engineer for Toyota and run with it. So, ~450-500hp, 3300-3500lbs, 20-30 MPG combined, and lots of the newest technical doo-dads that make it to higher end sports and supercars. Price it between $50,000 - $65,000 (Depending on trims and options) and then you have another winner. The original Supras were brought to America and showed Americans you can have your cake and eat it too when it came its market segment. That would just do it all over again. |

I don't see why people are keen to have Toyota make something similar or worse than the Corvette. The g'dam thing is not God. They can and should do better. Maybe something that can actually complete a hot lap without overheating. |

I'm down with this! The 86 is already like the affordable Cayman. I even have friends who bought it over the Cayman cuz it was too detached and isolated by comparison. The Supra being a bargain 911 would be spot on. I'd imagine a competitive range from base 911 (lighter weight RWD) to Turbo S (supercap hybrid AWD).

I am not sure why you are still talking about concept cars. It was communicated that the production of the BMW Z4 ends this month. Normally, the production of the new model should start in a few months and be ready for year 2017. Do you think there is a special agreement between BWM and Toyota and Toyota will have to wait one more year till 2018 or even 2019?
And by the way, the new Supra will be in reality a Toyota as much as the GT86 is a Toyota. Expect the new Toyota logo to say now BMW, instead of saying Subaru: ![]()

Why bring a FGT in to it? That is a mid engined car that was never designed as a competitor to the corvette. By your logic, stay on topic and don't bring any other car in to conversation.
