Thanks to you @2forme for initiating it all. If it wasn't for your original post and root files none of us would have started playing and people like @GreenPants would have been starting from scratch. Thanks mate

This is kindof neat

http://bit.ly/1bPzPo6

Seems to be a HU with a detachable front that can be used as a tablet, with leds that youcan choose either blue or red I believe.

Running android 2.3,
Not sure if it would be possible to root it like these other units though, also not sure how good the sound quality would be.

But kinda cool anyways

  • Boot animation defaults to spinning grey 86 (can still be replaced by putting a bootanimation.zip in /data/local)
  • Adjusted all internal apps to red theme
  • Fixed up broken English warning messages if trying to display video while driving
  • Replaced default wallpaper with BRZ/FR-S/86 generic
  • Replaced 3 of the selectable built-in wallpapers
  • Cleaned up the default layout a bit - removed the music widget from the initial page, removed Settings icon (available via the menu)
  • Removed all non-FT86 boot logos to free up some additional space
  • Installed Google Car Home - for testing only at this stage. Not sure about keeping it.
  • Installed ES File Explorer app - makes it easier to side-load apps without having to set up network connection first
  • Installed Terminal app (makes it easier for me to test new images, may/will be removed later on)

Also contains all the previous changes, like a working Google Maps API framework.

This update required changes to uramdisk.img, as well as system.img. Rather than requiring Hal9k's file set to be downloaded, I have bundled all required files into a single archive, available here or here.

To install the firmware, follow the excellent instructions in the first post of this thread, but use these files instead. If you have previously installed the MCU update, then there is no need to reapply it again.

Trap63 (or anyone else for that matter) - Feel free to mirror this file. I did a test the other day and found that I actually got better d/l rates from box.com, but it may have something to do with where the server is located relative to the downloader. If you PM me the details I'll update this post.
Hi, I get some trouble with this fw. I am not able to enter in phone mode....(iPhone 4s).

Yep, I see the same thing - the Phone app doesn't appear. I'll look into it.

I've backed out the changes I made to the bluetooth app, and that seems to have fixed it. I've uploaded v3 to here and here. (Thanks for giving me access to the extra mirror @Trap63!)

Unfortunately this means that the phone app will stay blue for now. When I have more time I'll try to figure out what went wrong.

Please let me know if anyone spots anything else that is broken/missing etc.

When I get some time I'll document how you can copy your downloaded APKs from the store onto your SD card. This makes reinstalling after firmware upgrade a lot quicker, as you don't need to set up Wi-Fi & Account to get everything back. (The maps, however, may still need to be downloaded)

Sorry about that. I checked my settings and don't see anything that should be preventing you from replying. But it's Ok either way, maybe our discussion will help others and we can make it public...

To re-cap, I had mounted your system.img in an ubuntu VM using furius ISO mount. That allowed me to read the file system, but I was unable to modify it. The purpose for modifications was to change out some of the images for a friend who has this radio in a Ford Expedition (Toyota images not appropriate )

Anyway, after sending you the PM, I kept digging and found my answer in a two fold solution. First I had to mount it via command line to force it into RW mode:

Code:
sudo mount -t auto -o loop,remount,rw Downloads/system.img ./system
{Change directories/filenames appropriately.]
This gets it mounted, but because you sudo'd the mount, you need root to still edit the files, so then
Code:
su
and modify the contents until your hearts content. Finally:
Code:
umount ./system
you can then take the newly edited system.img and flash like normal.

I greatly appreciate you doing all the fixes that you did, I just didn't want all the Toyota themed/colored apps for his Ford, so I copied the original Radio.apk, logo images, a different bootani, etc. He has since flashed that modified version and is quite happy.

Now, on to another issue that some of you may be up against and I'd like some thoughts on: LCD Density.

We installed Copilot on this unit (already purchased from previous devices) and it installed/ran fine, but when you need to sign in to your ALK Live account, the button for 'sign in' is too low .. you can't reach it. You can only create a new account.

I think lowering the density will cause the screen elements to shrink, and maybe that button will become visible. However, the build.prop doesn't have a density setting.

has anyone tried to set a density? what is the default? Anyone tried LCDDensity for Root from the market?

We will be experimenting with this a little later tonight. I'll report what we find.
