Hell it took Ford what 6+ years just to catch up to the Camaro????

LMAO unless Chevy royally screws the pooch I dont think they will have a hard time besting the new Mustang. (you could even debate whether the new Mustang is any better than the current gen Camaro).

The 2015 Mustang had the wow factor for about 2 weeks, then all the middle eastern exchange students are driving it everywhere now.

Um, considering the Camaro wasn't even in production when the S197 Mustang platform was released don't you think it should be the other way around? In fact, if it hadn't been for the S197 would GM have even brought back the Camaro? Ask yourself, why did GM quit producing Camaros in the first place? This argument could go in circles all day, but in the end it was Ford and the Mustang. If Ford hadn't developed the original Mustangs back in 1965, would there even be a Camaro today? I know, highly speculative right?

I'm not knocking GM or the Camaro, no arguing they can be really fast. The 1LE, ZL1 and Z28s are proof of that. I just think it's funny that so many people make this claim that it's the Mustang always playing catch up to the Camaro when in fact, historically one could make the exact opposite argument.

Oh you were thinking bigger picture than I was.

I was only referring to the 09 Camaro through today.

Since 09 the Mustang has been behind the Camaro and even with the new Mustang its arguable that they have passed the now 6 year old Camaro.

Define "behind"? Are we talking performance? If so, which models are we comparing? Are we comparing sales #s? Or are we comparing "subjective" preferences and/or ideals? Lots of variables when blanket statements get made. Personally, I'm a car enthusiast so I'm not taking the side of either company.

Ironically you can take it a step further and ask if the Mustang would have existed if not for Toyota and Datsun that were starting to import small economical cars in the early 60s.
Many don't seem to understand that the original Mustang was primarily meant to be a cheap, throw away, economy car intended to combat the rising imports (and it worked for a while). The performance versions were pretty scarce at first.

Ride and handling are the main areas.

I also felt the interior quality in the pre15 mustang was behind the Camaro.

I think Firebird > Camaro, at least cosmetically, depends on the generation and of course personal opinion.

Gen 1, Camaro wins.
Gen 2, Camaro starts off strong, Firebird takes over at the end.
Gen 3, I think it is a tie, although I liked the Camaro better (owned one so biased).
Gen 4, Firebird wins not even close.
Gen 5, I happen to think the current body looks better as a Firebird. (Here it's channeling Smokey and the Bandit, and stirring those old high school feelings about this car)

I remember I wanted a Firebird so bad when I was a young boy because of Smokey and the Bandit. What a classic movie; Jackie Gleason was the best!

I'm pretty sure if the Hurst T/A pictured above had been a factory model, I would not be driving the FR-S today.

My problem with Firebird was the electrical. Always seemed to be an issue, especially with the motorized headlights. These weren't problems in the Camaro. Looks wise, a '98-'02 Trans-Am WS-6 was a sexy beast.

Here is my old 2002 Camaro SS 35th I used to own on the dyno. This is when I sold it to a guy who detailed the whole thing and replaced the convertible top. Had about 57k miles when I sold it. I loved the F-Body.

The F-Body seats were about the most uncomfortable seats in car history.

Did not matter what I did within 30 minutes my right side would go numb and this happened to lots of people I knew.
