Like Mike said, just for fit. Lower offset looks meaner but rubs more. Higher offset fits stock alignment better but no one running high performance tires runs stock alignment. So we found a sweet spot in the middle that allows the widest tires to fit stock fenders when running aggressive alignment settings.

949 Racing isn't just a catchy name, we focus on race fitments first and foremost. That is where every fitment we offer begins. The reason why many of our fitments are unique is that we aren't just copying what everyone else does. We are instead working closely with racers and verifying everything here in our So Cal shop to come up with best possible solution from scratch.

For the 17x9 what is the inner wheel/tire clearance like on a car with stock struts and springs?

I would like to run 245/40 or 255/40 with crash bolts for now. Will that safely clear?

The future plan is to go to coilovers, bars, etc., but for now I would just be upgrading the wheels and tires.

The clearance is more of a offset issue. At +40, you will be fine. Please contact us if you have any other questions regarding these wheels. You should be seeing these wheels float around on the internet more, but our clients tend to spend very little time taking pics and posting on the internet (busy setting up the cars or racing).

this sounds great i'm running stock setup atm but plan to lower 1" on coils in the future so it looks like i'll be clear with both set ups.

do you know how much shipping to Australia would be?

17x8 in silver, with 225/45 MPSS. Stock everything else. Absolutely no fitment problems.

I love 'em.
