I'll keep an eye on the vendor page, I am very interested if you release this and can keep me in mind I'd like to be added to that list.

I would really like to get one of those trailer hitch tow hook mounts when they are available.

You can find it on Google, but sorry 300$ for a hitch is too much. That's just excessive. I'm just going to weld one up myself, heck all it is is a piece of pipe welded to a receptacle and two tow hook bolts. I can have a shop fab it up for 150-200 : / it's a shame when people develop something then overprice it killing the whole thing.

No, it's a shame when people think that a person who puts all the time and effort into developing something should be selling it at cost to the people who couldn't be bothered to make something themselves. Just because it's not brand name doesn't mean it's worthless. Some of the best products made for this car have come from the creativity and ingenuity of forum members here, and I for one am happy to pay a premium for something unique, tailored, and made with a genuine purpose over profit.

I don't ever expect that if I can make it for $200 that I would expect to buy it from someone else for that.

The point isn't what it costs to make. The point is that there are (IMO better) options for a whole lot less. Why would you pay $300 for custom machined parts from "some dude" when you can pay half that for something that does the same job, is very clearly more durable (sufficient vs omg precarious) and you can go pick up a half mile from your house, or go there to bitch if you have a problem? Custom machined parts where they are absolutely not necessary is one of the biggest reasons things are so overpriced. I considered making my hitch mount to the tow hook points like that and decided there was no way I'd even trust my little 200lbs trailer to that.

I hate buying grossly overpriced parts, but that trailer hitch at $300 ain't the answer. I know that's only 2 strikes, but

4' of 1 1/4 Square steel tubing with 1/8 wall 9$
20" of 7/8" round rod 6$
2 1 1/4" square steel caps for end 6$
hardware( nuts for ends washers for ends, 2 unthreaded m16 1 1/4 sleeves for internal pipe support [additionally making it stronger than his] , 2 1/4 metal rings for chain attachment) $12
Labor (quoted from 2 local shops, to weld, spin threads with small chamfer, cut lengths. and drill 3 holes, with metal supplied from them) 40$
Powdercoating 35$

Total done from shop $108
Total if made by myself $68

Gullible forum members willing to pay %278 markup due to laziness and inability to calculate machining costs... PRICELESS

In addition to that, I could additionally have two support ribs welded to the front. two thick collars on the bolt mounts, an additional brace against the frame for added support, and thicker wall tubing, I could make a stronger version (the tow hook mounts on your car are capable of holding the entire cars weight) that would STILL be cheaper, and still removable.

Theres nothing wrong with the design - if reinforced and made thicker it would be actually stronger than the current market edditions (feel free to run the FEA and stress analysis to verify my claims) because it would have shorter moment arms. ..... Its just ecessively overpriced considering I can get a permenant mount version for 130$ offline

Care to share where you found this hitch for sale on google. All I found were images.

I bought one of the early ones. Met Shawn at the Wilmington Tour this year. Sure it's not cheap and I could save a few bucks doing it myself but frankly my time is worth more to me than that. I've towed a tire trailer back and forth from Allentown, PA to Lincoln, NE and the same to Wilmington, OH and Toledo, OH. Not a single issue.

Support the people that spend the time and energy to figure these things out.

The markup on this hitch is criminal. Dont get me wrong Im all for individual entrepreneurship but this is insane. Just finished making one myself, 26$ in metal from local metal shop, 2 spun down rods and about an hour of fab and of welding.
300$?!? thats a 1154% markup!

I'm in the process of developing a stronger version that will be much cheaper. In the process of preliminary testing through FEA software now.

I hate to break up the hate-fest with an actual question but here goes...

All the wiring kits I've found so far have the powered converter with the wire that you're supposed to connect directly to the battery. Is that really necessary? In my previous car I didn't have that and had no problems with the trailer lights being driven from the car's tail lights.

Not unless you have some crazy powerful trailer lights. I wired mine into the tail lights and they were fine. However, your plug hits water or your trailer lights short and itll blow the fuse on your tail lights so might want to wire in a 5amp fuse with them just in case
